Well the double jump badge gives you enough height to reach that platform and from there you can jump to the coin easily. The big hippo always seemed like impossible because you start with a height disadvantage and using the small hippo takes you clear over the big one.

That's why it's OP. You just res on the spot without having to start over. It also has ghosts of other players playing so you can use that to find the more hidden things. And that's where the stands come into place as they also function as new checkpoints in the level.

It's cheesy, but I don't think it's that big a deal. It's mostly just saving time if you make a mistake. If the levels were designed to be more challenging, then maybe it would be problematic.

It's fun seeing everyone running around the same level you are in my opinion.

Just 100% completed

its great, but still pretty by-the-numbers Mario. They took some steps towards new features but I wish they would have shaken things up the way a lot of Nintendos other franchises did on Switch. Like I said in another topic everything adheres pretty rigidly to the formula Mario has used for decades. The badges, being unnecessary outside of their specific levels, felt inconsequential otherwise. Theres no real incentive to experiment with the more interesting ones outside of the levels theyre required.

probably the most disappointing bosses in the series, with the one repeated three times and then just the fairly simple final boss

the wonder flowers were a cool addition, but even that felt a little formulaic by the end with every level having exactly one

on that note it was pretty lame how all but one or two alternate exits are just obtained by skipping the wonder flower

with removing the timer and score, they made the game easier while also removing replay value. Wish they would have used the lack of timer to expand on levels, make bonus areas bigger, incorporate the super quick break time segments into the regular levels, make exploration more of a thing beyond exactly three 10-coins in every level

as it is, its kind of lacking replay value, and theres so much they could have done. Time trials? They added NPCs now, why not give them requests to complete (defeat X enemies, complete levels under certain conditions, require badges on different levels, etc?). I think of Kirby and the forgotten land, which had ~5 extra objectives on each level. Or Pikmin 4, where you saved NPCs who would expand your list of side quests to complete.

maybe they could have made the world map more interactive, with puzzles. the desert world had a couple but it felt kind of half-assed

it was great but I didnt come away from it thinking it was notably better than NSMBU. It felt like just another Mario platformer. Great, but a missed opportunity to shake things up imo

I feel like it's odd they have yet to make a fusion of story-telling, exploration and 2d Mario.

Imagine this exact gameplay, these levels and everything, but set in an awesome story like Thousand Year Door or something. Something big and expansive where you can really explore and go on side quests and stuff, but then bam, the gameplay is 2d side scrolling Mario.

This has been the case for all Mario games, to an extent. Stages are designed to be completable by small Mario, disregarding buffs.

Yeah, I wish they would have given an incentive to use badges. Most of them are just east mode, and then the more interesting badges have no real utility outside of their specific challenges.

and in a game with no timer or time trials or score system, theres no reason to use things like the jet badge or invisibility badge.

feels like all the changes are things they tacked on and squashed into a safe 2D Mario experience

Aaaand I'm done. Final Final Trial took maybe a couple of hours and 50-60 lives.

And I cannot believe I beat the invisible one at the end on my first try AND got the top of the flagpole. That's the one I was dreading, and it ended up being the only one I never died on.
