So instead of Final Fantasy XIII getting good 20 hours in, it gets bad?

Id say I agree. Its hard to get into Open World games. I always feel like Im either doing too many side quests, or just rushing through story. But then I feel like Im not getting what I should be out of the game, and I quit. Spider Man managed to keep my interest though.

Open world can definitely be overwhelming, but there is some freedom. I just hate games that aren't neccesarily linear, but also aren't open world, so if you don't know where to go, you get stuck.

I like medium sized open levels. Like Jak and Daxter or Sly 2. Crash Bandicoot style of linear levels is too linear for me.

I just did this with Starfield, did the main quest then ng+ a few side quests and got burnt out. I did the opposite in Skyrim, never finished the main quest but did a ton of side quests.

I actually think it might have some part in being older and that there are so many choices compared to when I was kid and only had a handful of games to play. Naturally I would 100% or play them over and over.

I think both have their merits. A lot of people seem to imply thst non-linearity is inherently good and necessary for the game to be better.

I like linear games but prefer open world.

I like the feeling of going on this big world wide journey.
