It might be the normal requirement. Fun idea: how about we make fines a percentage of wealth that way wealthy people can't just buy themselves out of trouble as easily?

some Scandinavian countries do this. it's the only fair way to implement fines because a $5000 file means nothing to a "billionaire"

I've heard it explained from those who are currently or were a part of the legal world say it's normal to start off with a court lecturing, then a fine, and then being held for violation. And this was before Trump did.

If people think this is bad, wait until his actual sentence is announced if he's even found guilty of anything. So many people are going to be dissapointed.

Look man, it may not be a big deal to you, but a $37 fine and revoking his Blockbuster membership is going to fucking sting!

Logically, yes, he would receive a harsher punishment.

But it's Trump, even when they're holding more accountable than he's ever had to deal with in his entire life of committing criminal activity he still gets preferential treatment.

It's the most blatant example of how rich white men have their own legal standards in this country and I think due to its publicity it's catching far more attention than when it's happened to others.

I was just pointing out that for all people the first violation of a gag order is not typically straight to jail, it takes multiple times before that happens. And I don't know if the 5k is just standard fine for this kind of violation that doesn't take the criminal's financial status into account, similar to traffic tickets that don't scale with income.
