pass in quotations, since we (ideally) don't own and control others.

I meant more, like, if you could be together again, if it was something you can accept and continue your relationship (assuming both people wanted to before the other found out).

Speak for yourself, we consider it mutual ownership. And no, I wouldn't. Wouldn't even accept being given a pass myself.

I think it's obvious that I meant disregarding the other person's autonomy.

what you're talking about sounds like an agreement both parties adhere to, which is fine, but idk if it means being put into a situation you would be unhappy/uncomfortable with, and then expected to endure without some kind of blowback.

anyway, if you thought you might die in space, and never see your partner again, you think you can hold out and not have some relationship with the only other person around for millions of miles? someone you might connect with and maybe find attractive?

Posting "Would you X" about, currently, impossible scenarios seems very odd, since nobody truly knows how they would react until they're actually in that situation.

It'd be one thing if it was actually a currently possible scenario, but when it stretches to "What if ImpossibleThingHere," it gets rather ridiculous.

It's really not a question, at least not for me. Like, I can connect with a lot of people, and a lot of people are attractive, but I promised some things to my partner. Call me a Sith, I run on absolutes.

Why do you even need to have sex in that situation? That would be the last thing on my mind lol

true.

it's not a serious topic; I just saw the trailer and thought it looked kinda cute, and wondered what others might do if they were the ones waiting on earth for their loved one to come back.

I know someone who sounds similar, who said she's demisexual, and how get turned on by someone she had a bond with. and how it wasn't something that could really happen with multiple people.

i didn't watch the trailer or read the premise of the movie, so maybe i'm off target here, but it doesn't seem like a 'partner' in this scenario.

a partner is like, active and current. not filled with unknowns, hopes, and ideas of a possible future.

the two leads are married to spouses on earth, but they're apparently stranded on some space mission, and it's highly unlikely (to them, at least) they'll be able to return home.

true, sex isn't a need.

we tend to have a strong desire for it, and many enough of us believe that it's a natural progression of physical/emotional connection that even if we might not accept the conclusion for ourselves, we can at least understand why others might.

there's also emotional cheating, where some people put it as high as sexual cheating, if not higher. I believe in a situation like this, is highly possible to form a kinship, which can border on romantic affection - would you give your partner a "pass" for something like that?

or maybe it's unfair to ask, since that could be less out of our control.

I don't feel it's my place to give someone a "pass", but if my partner did that and made it back I'd still feel hurt and betrayed and the relationship would be over. As already said, sex and romance isn't exactly required to become close to someone.

People got needs. Under normal circumstances I'd be hurt, but under some insane one-in-a-billion "only me and one other person stranded in space with no clear hope of rescue" scenario, go for it. >_>
