I have no problem agreeing with you when it comes to the story since a good bit of them really does not do main plots too well, but I have to disagree on the gameplay front. The tales of series on average is in the top 5 when it comes to that part imo and likeable characters thanks to the skits, and symphonia was one of the tales of games that for it's time period excelled at most of the things the game was trying to do.
