I can't watch videos on their site, but I can watch videos embedded on other sites.

I mean, what's the point of that?

Adblock stuff probably, but you can view off-site embeds perfectly fine even after having been blocked for using adblock on Youtube.

Embeds are easy advertising and they'll just cease and desist anyone making an embedded mirror site.

i maintain a glorified mirror app (but with better search/relevance algorithms) on my home server and i can't embed everything - some videos have to be viewed on youtube. similar observation with gamefaqs embedding. duckduckgo may be an exception but it's hard to search specific videos with it, so i can't say this with confidence.

an increasing number of channels have been removing the ability to play their videos from embeds.

It is true that not every video can viewed via embedding, but it's still like 1 out of 10 where that's the case
