I initially tried thinking about recent right-wing grifters and and ideologues who were/are a part of the art world that you could be talking about lol.

What I don't get is, why does the movie make the white actors who portray the killers who genocided the town as the stars? Why couldn't Scorsese and the marketing company focus on the victims and cast well known actors in those roles?

But people have to realize this paints the movie as celebrating the killers, not the victims, right? People will go to the movie and start empathizing with the white stars, not the lesser known native american actors they don't know.

Scorsese literally scrapped his original script precisely because he realized it had too much of a written by a white person slant and then literally gave the Osage tribe creative control on telling their own narrative and perspective from the side who suffered during the Rein of Terror.

The Osage tribe had a very heavy hand in directly dictating the storytelling of this.

I don't get this info from only Scorcese, I also get it from a member of the Osage tribe who talked with elders and tribe members who were a part of this.

I know some of them think Japan is some kind of anti woke paradise, immune from 'forced diversity', and leftist censorship.

Japan itself is extremely conservative, but their popular media isnt necessarily related to that. Many of their most popular shows, comics and games were incredibly progressive, among others for their depiction of gender issues and homosexuality. Western dubs and ports were oftentimes changed or completely censored.

They are conservative, but they aren't a western Christian culture so the norms of conservatism are going to manifest differently.

I don't know about that. Despite the stereotype of being sexually ...experimental... Japan is pretty misogynistic and quite repressive in terms of LGBTQ acceptance in media at least.

No. If you watch this movie (I just got out of it) and find yourself empathizing with the main white characters, you're a gigantic piece of shit and likely know it.

I was hearing a member of the tribe talk about it (he was in the lobby during the showing on a live call into one of my progressive pundits who has a regular and weekly segment with him and a native woman from a Canadian tribe talk about issues and things from the Native perspective) and he was talking about how tribal elders were tearing up and it was hard to watch because within the first 15 minutes it's very brutally honest in its telling.

well I mean you are basically saying that because the actors playing the "bad guys" have top billing that the movie glamorizes their actions.

It'd be like making a movie about slavery, but casting Matt Damon to be the slave owner and have him on all the posters. Or the Mai Lai massacre and doing the same thing. It's disgusting.

Or maybe he shouldn't have nepo'd Leo and DeNiro into another movie? This movie is about how a native american town was slaughtered. This really happened. And he decided to cast two white mega stars to get people to watch it.
