Humans in general are emotional but the most successful human individuals arent.
How do you figure?
Emotions are what drive us to do many things. They are why we want to be around other people, they're why we collaborate, discover, create. They're also why we hate and fight each other.
Animals have emotions to that drive them to various behaviors, that's not unique to humans.

Machines can be programmed to have emotions. That makes no sense.

You allow yourself to be surprised, shocked or traumatized by witnessing something completely inevitable and natural. This is why the realities of life shouldn't be sugarcoated.

I'm not a first responder, but working in the OR for years and seeing the end result of many types of accidents, and now working in a cancer hospital, we absolutely use dark humor as a coping mechanism. I'm surrounded by death, and reminded of it constantly, so I've just developed a sort of numbness over the years. My uncle was a firefighter and him and his firehouse were the same way...nothing was sacred.
Yeah, I'm even further down the line/disconnected as an attorney. I've got 5 cases on my docket where the plaintiff is "The Estate of . . ." and the accident scene and OR photos are... not pleasant. Gallows humor is the name of the game sometimes, if only as a coping mechanism. I try to be sober and respectful, but even as far removed as I am, it still takes its toll.

Sounds like something someone with no idea how traumas actually work would say. You sound like those people who tell depressed people to "just stop being sad".

What do you think emotions are and what their purpose is?

You make it sound like you've seen it so much you're not longer fazed.
Considering his job, that is HIGHLY likely.

I've witnessed death and it was traumatizing every time. I had no control over it and especially because those situations were people I was close to. But this was traumatizing for more than just the concept of death. Fear. Pure fear. The guy fell from the 30th floor. Trying to imagine what he was thinking during his final moments is horrifying in itself, especially while witnessing the accident.

The goriest road fatality I saw was a motorcyclist who had crashed really badly and he was kinda all over the place. The police covered the body with a tarp but they didn't do it very well so you could see part of the body and I saw his (barely there) head. I was 9.

Wear a helmet, folks.
A couple of years ago, there was a bad motorcycle crash on the freeway, and they had a tarp over the guy but his fucked up foot was still poking out.

I saw another motorcycle accident back in middle school. We were on the bus home, and the bus slowly droved by this dead biker in the middle of the street and pools of blood all over the concrete.
That was the first time I've ever seen a freshly dead body.

Edit: Of course someone would come in here and troll in a topic about trauma/witnessing death. Some dudes here seriously have no shame. Jesus...

Faizan_faizan is warned now. He was clearly just trolling but what a weird topic to pick to troll in. As in very shitty behavior.
