Sax man here...I saw a B sharp thw other day. And I was like what the fuck is a B sharp. Turns out it is a C. I kind of remember that but I still don't know how the hell that works...like at all.

Yes B sharp is just a C. Just like how D double flat is a C

and b double sharp is Db

I know nothing about music. Is there really just confusing notation or do these notes have differentiating nuances

Pretty sure you finger A flat the same way you'd finger DD large.

A sharp symbol takes the note up a half step.

Half steps:
D
C#/Db
C
B
A#/Bb
A

So if you take B up half a step, it's the same thing as C

It just odd to me how for some the half step is some is the next letter. While for others is a sharp.

Layout of the keyboard doesnt really have anything to do with how notes are raised or lowered by half steps. Half steps are all just frequencies

I have played music for too long not to have known that.. I mistakenly thought that the intervals from A to B, B to C, C to D, and so on were all whole steps, and that the sharps and flats were half steps. It kind of feels random now.
