It started getting better around season 27 or so. It's not better than seasons 2-10 (I mean, most comedies aren't), it's just different.

it's just a plodding pathetic dramedy instead of anything funny and exciting like the good episodes were
people get really overhyped about any sort of gimmick episode (which they do all the time now)

Yeah, it's kinda crazy, but I guess it makes sense for a long runner to suddenly get a resurgence in theory...

Gotta agree though, the quality started shifting at season 27 and has been generally good lately, though there's definitely still bad episodes each season
