It felt like what the 87' cartoon show could have been if it kept the fun but more serialized and with actual stakes feel the first five episodes had; when it had jokes but wasn't A joke. Shredder is a threat, Bebop and Rocksteady are dumb but strong, and you get an evolving world with aliens and all sorts of cool plotlines.

The book even got a bit more mature as it went along, some of the later stuff was downright weird like trying to stop Aliens who stole the brains of famous people through history so they could sample their dreams because some aliens didn't dream. Featuring scenes like Hitler shooting himself in the head because he thought the Ninja Turtles who had traveled back in time to stop the aliens were demons from Hell come to claim his soul. Also featuring a scene in which Donatello falls into a giant vat of the brains and they all start swarming all over him like they're trying to engulf him.

Man I loved that comic but I guess it eventually got canned because even Archie thought it got too weird.

That Hitler thing sounds pretty hardcore

There was another bit where Raphael had a dream sequence where he was killing a ton of his foes and standing atop a huge pile of their bodies, and then it rained acid rain all over him until he was a skeleton still standing atop them. I can't remember why he dreamed that but I remember thinking it was weird as fuck. Oh yeah, and he was laughing hysterically at the time.

A bunch of aliens they fought once hired some bounty hunters to kill some friends of the ninja turtles, and they shot them to death.

The aliens were working with a villain of the Turtles named Null, who was originally just a human with little horns, but over time he ended up basically morphing into Satan.

The girl was Mondo Gecko's girlfriend... don't ask. >_> Anyway, he broke her mind by pretending to be Mondo Gecko by turning into him and doing this..

Apparently he showed visions of them in Hell.. >_> Or so he made it seem at least. We never really find out if he was lying sooo

The Turtles plus Slash, who was their ally at this point get revenge by taking out the assassins, and going aboard the alien spaceship where they slash their way through the aliens getting covered in green blood and then Slash damages this weird alien stabalizer device which is some kind of techno organic thing filled with more green blood, like some kind of giant blood sac globe, so the ship is going down into the sun..

That's Raph with the eyepatch and Don in the longcoat and Splinter with the hoodie for some reason. Slash still covered with the blood from that giant thing he slashed open, everyone else I guess found a towel since they were messy earlier.

Is one of the murder victims a frog? Cause I remember a frog character from the 80s cartoon I think

He's a gecko (Mondo Gecko) who iirc was in the cartoon as well. They had a spinoff comic called the Mighty Mutanimals, and they helped defeat the alien takeover of the Earth with the turtles the first time in a crossover so their deaths were basically revenge for that.

The alligator with the hat is Leatherhead, who had reformed by this point and the blue guy is Man Ray. Both iirc from the show as well as Leatherhead iirc was in the original comics at least once? Leatherhead is also a boss in a number of the brawler games like Turtles in Time.

Raphael got the black bodysuit when Aliens (more comedic ones) kidnapped the turtles to make them fight in an intergalactic wrestling ring. Raph was given the black suit and he liked it so he wore it sometimes after that.

There were future versions of the turtles; it wasn't quite an apocalypse in the issues I read but the icecaps had melted so the sewer lair was now more of an on stilts in the middle of the flooded city base.

I remember Raph's black suit. I remember having a single issue of TMNT as a kid and he had that suit on. I had no idea why back then. I think its the only issue of the comics I ever read. So I had no lore context

Man, I still mourn the Mutanimals to this very day
