https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/stillalive/polygons-the-flat-4-in-1-measuring-spoon

The comments section has now turned into people complaining. a year they asked for more money to give people "expedited shipping" Shipping that was supposed to be shipped in the next couple months. You can actively buy them on their website and get them quicker than the people that pledged money.

Shit like this is why no one should Kickstart things. I've been burned before too, and that's why I don't even bother these days. Sorry they scammed you, TC. That sucks.

I think it was like $30 for like 3 sets of the spoons. Honestly going to read the comments of updates is worth the $30 at this point. Some posts are like in the time I initially backed this, I have been married twice, moved 3 times and one of the people I bought them for (usually parents or grandparents) have passed. The last part isnt funny, just how much has happened since the thing ended.

So the product came out but they are just screwing over the original backers? That's new to me. I used to know a lot of these ridiculous Kickstarters because of youtube and typically that's not how it works!!!

They said they need the online orders to get money to fulfill the kickstarter pledges.

Not all Kickstarters are bad... There's just some very stand out bad ones like this one... Being able to just buy them and flget them quicker than that backers is pretty wild and something I haven't seen before...

I've backed a ton of D&D books and they've never disappointed...

Nah, you just got to back something by someone with a proven record.

I feel bad for the people who backed something like mighty no.9 or to a lesser extent shenmue 3, but both keji inafune and yu suzuki already shown beforehand they were slippin' over the years.

Me? IGA for life. Put 150 dollars down with no hesitation towards bloodstained and absolutely loved what I got, and I'd do it again easy. I also backed eiyuden chronicles and that game is shaping up to actually be good. Mina the follower is by yacht club/shovel knight guys so I already got faith in that one too.

I wouldn't put that much money into some rando or some rando project, lol.

*I also backed penny blood and armed fantasia, but those are also from dudes who been in the industry for awhile and don't have a spotty record like keji inafune and yu suzuki.*

Yes, there are some exceptions when you're buying from established companies, but honestly the whole Kickstarter model is bad for the funders. I don't recommend them. If things go wrong you're absolutely screwed.

Mighty no 9 and Shemnue 3 may be below average but that is the risk you take. If you backed Mighty no 9 for I dunno 200 dollars, at least the shitty game came out. And I hope Said person got their perks.

This topic item is really confusing because it sounds like next level pyramid scam. We got the item in stock you backed but only of you order it online from us (again,). Lmao wtf.

That was so bizarre too didn't they launch a Red Ash Kickstarter while Mighty no 9 was floundering. And then when Mighty no 9 finally came out the first impression said by the campaign was it was better than nothing.

would've loved to back penny blood/armed fantasia/hymn to the earless god/eiyuuden chronicle because they're all things i'm interested but i just can't get over the "pay for it now to hopefully get it later" hump

like i'll get all of these when they come out and it's feasible but yeah

I only ever backed music from some artists I really liked and well with Penny Blood a Shadow Hearts successor. At this point in my life maybe I just live too much for the moment and don't want to just invest on what could be.

If April comes for me yea I'll get Eiyuddean Chronicles. Seems solid. Had a lot of time to bake in the oven whether Konami or them are playing off each other to drive up hype.

I don't see why EC wouldn't benefit from a Suikoden remaster and vice versa.

Yeah that is understandable.

In my case I don't look at these kind of things as a video game pre-order so much as I am trying to help for these games to get made in general. (I know with crowdfunding its more-so whoever is running the project can guage fan reaction so another company can come along and help publish+market the game and so on. I learned mad quick that crowdfunding can nowhere near fund a video game on it's own, so if someone is trying to make it out like this crowd-funding money is all they need to make XXX then its more than likely a scam).

I just happened to have a spare bit of money at the time, but it really was a bit of change to go in for a physical copy for penny blood+armed fantasia at the same time, lol.

They are. After the Kickstarter campaign was so successful for Eiyuden Chronicles, the team was basically asked for their blessing by Konami to make the Suikoden remasters and they gave it iirc.

^ I am cynical but still I don't think everything is an insidious plot to undermine everyone.

Youtubers couldn't wait to pounce on Konami which yea they do only care about Pachinko but maybe. This spring will be beautiful.

It blows my mind that kickstarter is a thing. You take on all the risk, the creators get all the reward, and if you're lucky then you've just got a glorified pre-order and that's the best case scenario.

I feel it is still worth mentioning Bloodstained:Ritual of the Night is still fulfilling stretch goals and putting out games too. I shoulda tried to finish that as I picked up that game a couple years ago on PS4, but eh I got to a satisfying point.

It's the opposite of the Mighty No 9 where the end game was just be happy you got something *snickers*

Nah. It's a mid case study at best.
  1. It actually delivered
  2. The shit that happened was pretty normal video game dev shit it just ended up getting exposed to the public at large because it was crowdfunded

Look into the Darkest Dungeon boardgame KS. Now that one is a mess. Collected a ton of money and then went like, give us more money. And then went like, give us even more money!

And if you didn't pay the extra contributions, you didn't get your game. Despite already paying for it once.

I don't think there was anything insidious about MN9 but they made so many missteps that looked shady. Like just before falling short of a goal they revealed it had been picked up by a publisher, which feels very much like a bait and switch move even if it wasn't. I may be misremembering exactly how that played out though.

Not to mention overpromising and constant delays while funding a separate project.

That's why I refer to it as a good example of mismanagement. Not a scam.

Oh man the comment section of this kickstarter, wtf happened lmao, also guessing those people copy pasting the refund thing aint getting shit back

this is the tl;dr

Dude announces new indie JRPG featuring AAA experience devs
Red Flag #1: Identities of some devs are unknown. This means some people expressed interest in working but were uncertain or had concerns that would cause them to walk away from the project. The KS managers however had no qualms about listing their accomplishments as part of the job history when they weren't even officially part of the team.
Red Flag #2: AAA games listed pedigree intentionally obfuscated who they were bringing over for those games. They cited Metal Gear Solid 5 in lots of places but they actually meant "Donna Burke," which I'm not faulting her for any of this, btw, I'm sure she's a wonderful person, but she ain't a game developer man come on.
Red Flag #3: Unrealistic budget, completely bloated stretch goals, and THREE stupid $10,000 pledge tiers. All art for the game is concept art. Zero gameplay footage. Not even the "I made it in an afternoon" shit the guys who launched Red Ash put together. There was never at any point a game.

What ended up happening: one of the unannounced guys was the programmer. He didn't like the offer he got to work on the game so he walked. They had no one to replace him. Nobody wanted to replace him presumably for the same reasons. The money just all got pissed away as they stubbornly insisted that the game development was still ongoing for years despite not even one line of code having ever been written.

I kinda wished I'd backed it at $1 level just to get access to the forums and see what's going on in there.

This is a interesting 30 minute video that goes over it a bit so put this on as background noise whenever.
