half of the good apartments are listed by women and 75% of those are only looking for other women. which is annoying.

i spent several hours on roomi.com bookmarking like 50 places that i was going to mass send DMs to but it turns out people can block you from messaging them if you dont have a premium account which costs $15/week or $30/mo so that's cool that i get to buy that now

and then craigslist and facebook are like 50% scams. reddit is too slow and unresponsive and also everyone there is apparently excited to spend 5k/mo with a roommate and sharing a bathroom. also trying to find a person to pair up with is almost impossible, but if i did that i could just search for an empty apartment which would be a thousand times easier than trying to find a single room for myself. searching traditional sites like redfin or streeteasy or w/e are soooo much easier than sifting through single room ads on these other places.

also you read a normal ad and then you get to the bottom and it says you need to be gay in the 7th paragraph and that "non-clothing lifestyle is a plus". you can just put your weird shit up top, man. don't make me read the whole ad only to see that at the end.

fuck.

yeah i dont get the whole short sublet thing. esp cuz ive had roommates disappear on vacation for like a month and no one ever did subleases

i feel this. im on long island but im willing to relocate to the city but ive got a lot of trouble finding a place. ive become so unpicky but some of the requirements people are listing are nuts.

in san antonio i just cruised around and called phone #s on signs boomers put up in their yards. found a place in a day and a half

man. i just need a place til like, june then im out

People sublet their homes for about 2 months each summer in my town and for good money.
And many of the people who pick up are people from New York.
Hell, I had to help bring a washer and a dryer up a windy staircase for Andy Serling once.

It's absurd, my sister just went through it. She'll be paying more than she used to pay for a whole apartment to live with a stranger, but at least she'll be where she wants to be.

My girlfriend and I are gonna be looking for a place together in the new year. I'm lucky that she's in a situation where the money really isn't an issue, because currently I'm paying $900 a month to live with four roommates and even that strains my budget.

I heard some NYC residents have left the country to go fight in some war. NYC has laws that state "squatters who live in a place for 30 days instantly become legal tenants" so do what you will with that information.

1800 is kind of my max that i don't want to spend. probably more 1300-1500 area.

also i don't have a job lined up which i'm sure will be another headache wrt applications

i lived there for 5 years and spent 875 on a 4/1.5 that was a minute walk from a train station. in the 2.5 years i spent there i got completely priced out of my area and managed to find a below market value spot in dumbo for like 775 but that was a 4/1 (and i had no windows in my room lol). and then post-covid everything has skyrocketed even more. a 4/1.5 room in bushwick, a full neighborhood or two further from the city than my old spots, is like 1200. and this is like 10 minutes walking from a train station too. shit is crazy bro.

can I interest you in a lovely place in Wyoming?

apparently there's thousands of empty apartments that are "affordable housing" in the sense that they are far below market rate but theyre still like 8k/mo or something since theyre huge apartments

the actual reasonably priced apartments get picked up by gentrifiers and students pretty quick

i don't think i can stomach bushwick though. living in bed stuy was bad enough dealing with all sorts of pratt kids all the time. bushwick seems 1000x worse. same with ridgewood. and i don't wanna be stranded in crown heights or bed stuy again with only having the G train or being a 15 min walk from the A/C. miserable.
