Yo what if they made a RoboCop game that isn't complete dogshit? Seems like it's finally happened! While far from perfect, the devs at Teyon (creators of the criminally underrated Terminator: Resistance) have worked their magic again creating a game that feels authentic to the franchise that is also fun to play. It's mostly a straight FPS, but with a few light RPG elements taken from games like Deus Ex and Fallout and features things like talking to citizens with dialogue choices and the combat basically just having V.A.T.S. implemented into it. A lot of the fun seems to stem from just curbstomping enemies as Robocop doing everything from shooting their dicks off to grabbing people by the throat and throwing them out of the windows of skyscrapers. Peter Weller returns to voice RoboCop although the writing can be spotty at times. It's also clearly operating without a AAA budget as character models of enemies and NPCs all seem a bit janky and various other visual bugs, it doesn't seem to hamper the experience too much. Currently sitting at a 71% through 15 reviews I'll be interested to see what direction this goes in as more reviews roll in.

Shacknews - 9/10
Robocop: Rogue City is an argument that not only can licensing IP work well in smaller-scale games, but given the right combination of creativity and focus a more dormant IP can be especially effective. A property like Robocop does not have a clear position in pop culture right now, beyond the obvious late-80s movie nostalgia. But the team at Teyon, with a combination of awareness and sincerity, definitely found one. I had so much fun blasting through waves of jabronis and laughing at Robocops earnest policing antics. In a crowded year like 2023, Rogue City is an unexpected gem.

Gamespew - 8/10
Fans of RoboCop are likely to love Rogue City, though its also likely to prove appealing to those who simply like shooting up bad guys with reckless abandon. Dealing out violent justice as RoboCop rarely struggles to put a smile on your face even if, at times, it threatens to become a tad repetitive. Throw in some light investigation and some moments of humour, and you have a game that makes effective use of a much-loved IP.

GamingTrend - 8/10
Just like RoboCop himself, Rogue City is only human, but its still pretty great. With an intriguing narrative and stellar side missions, exploring Old Detroit is a real treat. Gunplay feels heavy, and engaging your friends and opponents with words as well as bullets is satisfying. In a year filled with blockbusters, this is a cult classic.

Digital Spy - 8/10
RoboCop: Rogue City is a blast to play for long-time fans of the franchise and goes above and beyond to respect its source material. It won't win any awards for being ground-breaking, but Peter Weller offering his voice to a story that's arguably the best use of the RoboCop name since the original film makes this a worthwhile treat for those who want to be transported back to their childhood.

TheGamer - 7/10
Even if Rogue City had started to rust a little towards the end of its lengthy campaign, its surprisingly in-depth shooting and roleplaying mechanics, love of the source material, and keen understanding of what makes RoboCop so great in the first place has made it one of the biggest surprises of 2023 for me. In a year full of absolute bangers, make sure you spend some time in Detroit.

Eurogamer - 3/5 Stars
Teyon blends bloody linear shootouts with light open world action for an entertaining, if unadventurous, RoboCop experience. Yet while Rogue City might not do much that's new, it is for the most part a convincing facsimile of the old. And not just as a slice of RoboCop fiction. Alongside being Teyon's best game, Rogue City is a welcome example of a style of game that doesn't get made much anymore. At some point during the 2010s, the upstart AA contender was brutally shot to death by a cackling gang of megabudget prestige titles and worthy indie games. In Rogue City, Teyon has brought it back to life, armed, armoured, and ready for duty.

TheSixthAxis - 4/10
Robocop: Rogue City certainly looks the part, but beware of this gleaming, shiny, polished graphical exterior; it hides mechanical insides that are rust-riddled and broken. Dead or alive, this game definitely shouldnt be coming with you.

I had no idea a Robocop game was even coming out.

So a planet's somewhere out there, their history the same as ours is written. The only difference is that... Everyone's a kitten!

This is about what I expected review-wise. Low 70s, not worth checking out unless you're a superfan.

I've only watched it streamed (about 4-5 hours worth) but it's a fair bit better than I would have expected. I don't particularly care about Robocop but it seemed pretty fun despite its extremely clear shortcomings. Graphics are somehow both nice and terrible. The environments look good but character animation and design are clearly subpar and awkward. Voice acting is definitely in "so bad it's great" territory. Exploration actually seems fun. Combat pacing is actually pretty decent. The upgrading and leveling system is a little superfluous but I still like it.

Yo its from Teyon? 100% worth a buy even lf you don't care about Robocop. Don't trust reviews from outlets blindly here, they did spectacular work nailing the vibe of the license with Terminator. No reason they wouldn't be able to do it with Robocop too.
