I dont quite understand the genre honestly. I grew up liking some of the classic thrasher films like Halloween and Chucky, but horror movies are taken to an entirely other level nowadays.

I cant take 99% of horror movies seriously in the first place. Dont find them scary, usually just kind of laughable.

But these people who obsess over horror and love getting absolutely terrified make no sense to me. That has to do something to your psyche, constantly putting yourself through terror like that

Its hard to put into words, but I think its because I like to see the way that the characters react to unbelievable scenarios.

Same reason why some people enjoy rollercoasters, the thrill.

The fears one has to do with in life are terrible. Being scared by a movie however, is not terrible. One controls the by fear by choosing to experience it.
Its not unlike a person watching a said movie knowing that it will make them cry.

That, or people like gore and body counts. There was an appeal of grotesqueness when I was younger, though I long since became disinterested in that kind of shock value.

I usually dont get scared by horror films, and the ones that have unnerved me are mostly recent, so I burn through them looking for ones to scare me. I also am usually less annoyed watching bad horror films than I am bad action films and comedies that disinterest me.

I like a good thrilling fight for survival. Thus I prefer kompetent characters instead of dumb useless teens the audience probably wants to see slaughtered.

There's a difference between intelligent creeping horror movies such as Rosemary's Baby or The Shining and a slasher film where it's mainly just cheap jump scares.

I personally like to see how depraved the human mind can get. It's why I go out of my way to watch movies that are banned in several countries across the world.

Not sure how true it is but I always heard that getting scared can actually be beneficial to you health wise. I'd have to look up and see if there are any actual studies on this.
