Hawkeye pointedly telling all lower ranking soldiers who use the g-word slur for Koreans that he really, really doesn't care for that word, to the point that he will actually pull rank to make it stop (something he loathes to do). Or the episode where the soldier tells Hawkeye "just make sure I get the right color blood in me"

Views that were probably seen as normal still when MASH aired were actively challenged by this sitcom.

Crazy how people can have such short memory as a whole.

It's almost like the people who cry about media being too woke aren't actually the ones watching

I wouldnt consider Hawkeye a beacon of morality. Dude has a few "quirks" that wouldnt fly today.

Do folx have issues with Klinger these days? I can see some finding his character to be problematic.

Hawkeye is clearly a womanizer and this is played for laughs, that's true. But you never get the sense that these are ever non consensual encounters and Hawkeye usually gets what's coming to him when he's being worse than normal.

At the same time I wasn't trying to say he's a beacon of morality either.

As for Klinger, it's hard to be mad about it when he's not the one saying a man wearing a dress is crazy - the army says so, so he's trying to play by their rules. That's just how I see it tho.

It's funny how modern Conservatives have basically taken Frank Burns as their template for how a person should be.

Except QANON. They picked Colonel Flagg.

MASH season two episode 22 had Hawkeye and Trapper protect a gay soldier who would have been discharged if his sexuality came out. Pretty amazing for a show made in the seventies, at a time when homosexuals still couldn't openly serve.

Yeah, kind of crazy how people don't remember shows that ended before they were born.

Frank Burns is hilarious.
I also made the same observation while watching tho. Nice to see some things do not change.

People who were children and young adults when the show aired are still alive so this post seems silly to me but maybe you're onto something

Kind of crazy how reruns don't exist for later generations to watch them, especially for shows that are considered cultural icons

I Imagine you did great in history class, not being able to know about things from before your birth.

Don't forget that the series finale touched on PTSD for military members, another big thing people didn't want to talk about at the time.
