Average for a Mario game, so 9/10

Best 2D Mario since World

A step up from the NSMB games. There was actual passion and creativity put into this one and it shows, feels more reminiscent of a 3D Mario in that regard. I think its a bit overhyped at the moment, but I still had a fun time with it. I think the lack of any challenge outside a handful of levels kept me from being fully engaged.

It's a fantastic game if you love platformers. But . . .

The rhythm based sections kind of spoiled the overall experience for me. One in particular. If they had left that shit out it would've been my second flavorite game of the year.

Most Mario games aren't that difficult, but this one you could almost complete half asleep

Great but not much to do once you 100% it, you can't even start a new game without creating a new profile.

Its the Mario Galaxy of the 2D games

Its great and a step up from NSMB, but almost all the changes they made were to make the game easier, and its a missed opportunity to mix up the Mario formula in a meaningful way

there are also some specifically disappointing aspects like barely any boss fights

I enjoy it.

The only knocks I have are everything pertaining to end of world segments. Castles are extremely short, the boss fights aren't varied enough, and some worlds don't have a castle at all.

Its the same tired formula as the NSMB games, but with a fun flower gimmick, new animations, and reduced difficulty. 9/10.

I think it's about the same, not counting Wonder's final stage.

It's much easier than super mario world from the improved controls alone.

QVC is how I got Tears of the Kingdom for like $30 when it came out

Fantastic game but imo seems a bit expensive for what you get.

I've heard alot of people claim its one of the best 2D Mario games ever. Haven't tried it myself though because I'm unsure about paying $60 for a 2D Mario game.

Yeah

and there are so many ways they could have added replay value

they have the badge system, they could have easily given medals for completing levels with the different expert badges

They could have added 4-5 challenge objectives like the most recent Kirby game had

they took away the timer, they could have made the levels more dense with secrets or branching paths

This feels a bit like saying the core gameplay from Mario 64 was unchanged except for FLUDD. It's a big change that radically alters levels in clever ways.

Also, wonder flowers aside, the structure has been altered in bigger ways. Progression being gated by collection rather than beating specific levels on a linear map. The smaller levels like break time and ko arena (and badge challenges) feel like they're taking from 3D World as much as anything.

Nope. Slightly different physics aside, there's two extremely big changes from NSMB. Namely removal of the timer for the levels.

If you play World levels normally and don't abuse the cape, Wonder is way easier. If you take cape cheese into account then World is easier.

It's great. I'm cleaning up everything and need to find out where to find the last three blasted special worlds so I can be fully 100%.

I wish it was longer and the levels had challenge, but I was smiling a bunch with the pure charm of it. Badges are meh, some are clearly better than others. Would have been cooler if you unlocked them all as abilities (or at least a smaller subset) and older levels had hidden exits only accessible with them.

Literally the only thing the timer removal does is make the game easier

they didnt alter the the level length or structure (I.e. make them more explorable or have more secrets) at all

If you like the new super Mario bros games then youll enjoy this. I enjoyed some parts of it, but really got burned out pretty quick and had to force myself to beat it because Nintendo got a hold of me lol. Felt like babies first 2d Mario and at 34 I felt too old to be playing it.
