Hint: One of the users defended someone being ran over and killed during the neo nazi march in Charlottesville.

Being careful who you support is a fine trait. However, neutrality is not always a virtue. By siting on the fence on certain subjects, you are serving the ones who are hurting others.

The people on the top of the list will see you giving permission to their suffering, not any alleged caution on your end.

Look at how many people ITT are erroneously claiming that politics involves picking between one of two sides. Implying that you should look at every issue at once and decide whether you agree with the left or the right. And whether you agree with them or not decides if they are hostile to you or not.

This is seriously how a neutral fan would decide between two different sports teams to root for. One team has 10 championships, but the other team won 5 championships in a row which is the most ever. One team wears purple and the other team wears green which is my favorite color, etc.

In reality, you should look at issues individually and stop choosing between one team or another. Most issues have multiple potential solutions, much more than two. And just because you agree with someone about one issue doesnt mean youll necessarily agree with them on any other issue. But picking between one of two sides forces you to do that, and forces you to become enemies with the other side. Just like choosing one sports team forces you to become rivals with fans of other teams, but these are serious issues that affect millions of peoples lives not a game made for entertainment. If you want to play games you should invest your interest in sports instead, or something else besides politics.

I agree that in general the left are better people than the right and I agree with them on more issues. But when you claim the right is evil, you better set the bar of how you behave a lot higher than then what they do. Your beliefs give you no right to act as toxically as you do.

Many people justify toxic behavior by saying they are better than the right or fighting against the right so its OK. People are doing it in this topic. People who dismiss criticism by saying oh I guess both sides are the same lololol do this all the time, and you did exactly that in this topic.

Sarcastically I meant - bOtH sIDEs in that exact style, implying that if you dont agree with them or if you criticize their behavior, you must agree with the other side. You did exactly that.

Its tough enough to have serious and productive political discussions in real life. On the internet its almost impossible.

And you believe this will be possible under our current system? Peacefully?

Cause I'm all for kicking both parties out and rebuilding from the bottom up. But um... I'm not convinced there are pleasant ways to do this.

To peacefully bring about revolution, and I do believe thing should be done peacefully whenever possible, that's going to be a long haul.

Im going to claim that isnt true considering how toxic most of the former 261 users are.

An actual reason why its almost impossible is its more difficult to convey your meaning on the internet than in real life, and people are more hostile on the internet than real life. Those things dont add up to quality political discussion.

It's about a mature concept as any and a neccesary evil.

The problem is when people get involved. Some people aren't mature enough to eat at the big kids table or they are simply stupid and ignorant but they'll go ahead and get involved anyway.

As someone not from the US, I have to ask a honest question that seems kind of dumb, lmao.

Like what's the point in caring about politics in the US? You've got two parties and no third choice.
Over the past decade Democrats have been your average corrupted political party, while Republicans have been more or less pure evil that needs to be stopped.
The story ends there.

Why do you waste your life on all the Trump nonsense when there's nothing you can do? Every sane person already knowns who to vote for on the eleciton day, reading/listening/watching anymore of that nonsense just hurts your mental health.

I'm from a small country with your usual corrupt politicans that can't be overthrown without a massive uprising which will never happen. I always like to say that the only people who still follow politics are ones who have direct benefits from it and the let's call them under-capacitated individuals who fall for the propaganda and bs, much like in the US.

Because we didn't care in 2016. We knew he was a racist old bastard and looked the other way.

Guess who won 2016?

More to the point, while it's true that you shouldn't pay attention to politics each and every single day, a lot of us have no choice but to pay attention.

Just ask all the women who woke up one day and saw their reproductive rights were suddenly gone.

We currently have a political party that attempted a coup because they lost a fair election. A political party that isn't even attempting to hide the fact that they want to kill trans people, that they want their political opponents murdered.

The luxury of "Just ignore it" has passed for many of us. Do I gain something for paying attention to politics? Absolutely, my human rights are a hell of a benefit.

I literally said that everyone who's able should vote, but obssessing over politics daily like a lot of people do is just making their lives worse.
If you can't do anything useful in the bigger picture other than voting, then what's the point of making yourself feel miserable?

You followed it enough to know who to vote for and knowing how many crimes Republicans committed in detail won't change much.
