Good for him (semi generic response). But I played this whole series in Japanese with subs. I am not going to just suddenly switch to English. I tried this once in Lost Judgment on accident and it sounded so off lol. Not bad but I just couldn't play it like that.

The recent English dubs for RGG games have been fantastic but this is a misfire. Voice isn't deep enough.

I still play in Japanese just because it's what I'm used to, but the dubs have definitely been quality.

I feel bad because this was one of those roles that no matter how good he ends up doing.. he is screwed and going to get shit on just because every Yakuza/like a dragon fan is so used to Kiryu's japanese voice that anything different is just going to feel wrong

Just going by what I recently read and I have no context for English Kiryu but he definitely shouldn't sound nerdy. This guy mistook cyber terrorism for cider terrorism. He's just s guy who should have a deeper voice (especially for his age now) and isn't into the typical media. Has this guy ever seen an episode of the Simpsons ever?

I'm not one of those people that always HAS to have Japanese voices. in fact most of the time in localized titles with language options I actually utilize the English option. However in this instance I have to use the Japanese voice as that is what I have always known and used from playing the games. The Japanese voice is Kiryu and will always be Kiryu to me.

I thought the Judgement dubs were pretty okay and LAD:7 was fun. Kaiji Tang is great. They even brought PS2 Kiryu back for one last performance and he wasn't stilted and terrible.

YongYea sounds nasally and has too high of a Baritone to sound close to the JP voice. And that Karaoke clips makes it obvious his singing skills are bad and they need to use autotune to keep him on key. That's honestly pretty fucking embarrassing. I heard 0 complaints about Yakuza 7 karaoke dub and they even did Bakamitai in English for that game.

Looking online that was the last role he had done and before that was one in destiny 2 back in 2017.. between that and being nearly 60 i would assume he has just retired

Error dude! I remember Play it Bogart got super into them. Just at that point I didn't feel as well. Also I think Dead Souls was one of his earlier attempts. Like joke ass shooter no one wanted in the series but Red Dead Redemtion 1 did it.
