At them. NBA and MLB players act like fucking divas because they have fully guaranteed money, but NFL players go out and get crippled both mentally and physically to make pennies on the dollar. While the NFL rakes in just as much money for the owners.

America is so backwards sometimes.

Nobody deserves to make millions of dollars to play sports.

All revenue combined (That includes sponsors, NIL deals and anything else) should be capped at 1 million and all the surplus munny should be donated to poor, underprivileged, and disenfranchised folx in the communities surrounding those multi million dollar stadiums.

Partially accurate but who do you think hoards all of that money? My Mariners increased their value by over $1 billion in team value and hoarded a quarter of a billion in profits in just the past 3 years. Both of those are exclusive to each other. That money didn't go to the fans or even to the players.

The reason that NFL contracts aren't fully guaranteed (besides the fact that the player union is kind of weak) is the same as the reason for why you would want them to be fully guaranteed though.

Tbh though I don't know how revenue split works in the leagues with non-salary caps. NHL is 50/50 revenue split for their hard cap which is better than NFL (48/52) but they're comparable.

Honestly, salary caps don't matter. Garbage franchises will always be garbage franchises barring a miracle draft selection. Those teams are owned and operated by idiots that would still fail if given full opportunity to toss money at any and everyone. It's an artificial way to keep player salaries down.

Close. The reason the NFL doesnt have guaranteed salaries is because the window for making money in the league is so much smaller than the other leagues. They would rather take what they can get for what little time they have rather than take the risk and fight for guaranteed money.

I'd disagree, somewhat. "Professional athlete" is one of the careers most likely to result in injury, often multiple. And sports DO help local economies. So, yes, while I agree our current system is broken, in general... Within the current system, athletes do deserve high pay. The issue isn't that athletes are paid too much, it's that other careers are paid too little. And they're separate problems. You don't need to pay athletes less in order to pay other careers more. The problem is that, in other careers, there is usually somebody at the top making too much and not willing to cut into their own profits.

Salary caps are not inherently anti-worker. A near 100/0 revenue split for players divided 32 ways as a salary cap would be much closer to what you'd expect from a co-op type set up.

When e.g. Joe Burrow resets the QB market, he's not winning a battle against the owners. It's money that isn't going to other players. And that's true whether owners take half the revenue split or none of it.

Not to mention there's a much stronger correlation between athlete salaries and their observable, quantifiable performance compared to other fields where compensation is based on politics and exploitation. You don't really see athletes failing upward at the level that executives can, for instance.

The players have no power because compared to other sports, the rosters are much larger - meaning there are more players - and careers are much shorter - meaning each individual player's window to make money that's got to last them the rest of their life is small. So you've got too many people wanting to get theirs while they can.

The average length of a player's NFL career is 3.3 years. So asking them to strike for a year, to give up a third of their career earnings, is a tall ask. And you're asking them to do so for the players who will be drafted/signed to replace them on the roster sooner than later.

And on top of that, the NFL doesn't have the minor and European/Asian leagues that the NBA, NHL, and MLB have. So that 3.3 year window in the NFL is all most of them they're going to get.

Precisely. Athletes earn their pay, in almost the purest form. If you want to be paid better, you need to put in the work and literally get better, with very few exceptions.

The simple fact is, they have a product that people pay around 20 billion annually to view. So you've got two paths here, either the players get paid or the owners get paid.

I personally think players should get a 60/40 split, especially when owners refuse to build their own stadiums outright, despite reaping all the rewards from that stadium.

Statistically any player could be standing right on there ideal shooting spot with the ball and theyd be more likely to make it if they tossed it to Steve who threw it right back.

My favorite move of his is where hed just dribble in a circle under the basket until the forwards and center were all snarled up then just kick it out to the guard while going to camp out at the free throw line.

Cousins has had fully guaranteed contracts his entire career.

Rookie contract isn't guaranteed and his fully guaranteed contracts have mostly been 1-3 year extensions (which is also what the franchise tag falls under). And he's also shown a level of durability (well until this year =( ) that he's earned it.

That's much different than a 5 year fully guaranteed contract for Watson. NFLPA doesn't want everyone on 1-2 year fully guaranteed contracts either.
