Marvel has significantly more lore associated to it than Dragonball.

Marvel. Dragon Ball is an incoherent mess where lore and characters are forgotten at the drop of a hat.

Marvel can get convoluted when you include the comics, but it consists of countless imprints and writers/artists. DB has no excuse.

Dragonball's universe is a wellspring of fun things, Marvel's is feces you tell me what sounds more interesting, a timeline where a war broke out between Dr.Gero's android army against Demon King Piccolo's army or a timeline/universe where Hulk and She-Hulk had gross incest babies

DBZ, ironically, because it isn't full of a bazillion different bloats, and the locations it does have tend to be .

Marvel is a good, but very convoluted setting to the extent that there is just too MUCH to the point where every new alien planet or magical realm is just a different colored generic like the rest.

I won't say that Dragon Ball had any particularly noteworthy variety outside of the Earth or anything (though Namek specifically is surprisingly unique in overall appearance as far as alien planets go).

Part of it may be that I just hate humanity in the Marvel Universe because they are too much like the real ones. i.e. if spiderman were real, everyone would hate him because Fox News would constantly trash on him just like the angry conservative station in the Marvel Universe hates him. Oh, and lets not even get started on anti-mutant supporters. Most marvel heroes that actually have to live on the Earth seem to have... a rather bad existence where most people hate/fear them. Even if its actually accurate and at times justified, it just wears you down after a while.

The funny thing about this is that, at least in the USA, the majority of us started with Dragonball Z. The first episode references Krillin having died and Picollo wanting to kill Goku for some beef they had but won't elaborate on because you were expected to have seen/read the preceding story arc. "Oh let's go see this talking cat and his samurai friend who grow magic beans. This is just something that exists in this universe I guess."

Some people might have seen the very old dub of the Pilaf arc and some of the movies but Z is what really made it blow up.

So the answer to "where do I start" in both Marvel/DC and manga is basically "wherever the fuck you want. Anything immediately important is explained and the rest you'll pick up along the way, so long as your higher than a first grade reading level." >____>

Yeah comic interconnectivity is way overblown. Just because Ghost Rider randomly shows up in an X-Men issue doesn't mean you need to read every Ghost Rider story to comprehend his existence. Just go with it, geeze...
