Could science advance enough that we can bring the dead back to life?
Before you say "No", I'm sure nobody thought we would ever be able to make it to the moon or clone sheep either.

Nobody really knows? I mean it depends what you mean by that though. We already bring dead people back with CPR all the time.

The issue is after a few minutes the oxygen deprivation to their brains and organs makes CPR none viable and their organs fail and brain death kicks in. We would have to be able to fix or reverse all the effects of all that to bring people back more than some minutes.

I mean like someone who's been dead for a year or more.

Maybe one day humanity will become so incredibly advanced that they can reverse time and take every human life and stasis it long enough to fix whatever killed them, give them eternal life, and put them back in their present with their loved ones

If there's an afterlife I kinda think of it like this. Something we create

I mean they're gonna basically need an entirely new body, and you'd probably have to hook their brain up to some sort of life support or somehow do something about the irreversible cessation of brain function. Even then, no idea if there would be any real guarantees.

Like I'm no expert, but there's a reason death is considered irreversible.

Some people on this very board think it didn't happen.

On topic: Just because we could, doesn't mean we should. Maybe someone who's dead would prefer to stay that way. And it's probably not desirable to bring back Bin Laden or Hitler.

This reminds me of a book I read some years ago, basically it was a collection of short stories about what happen after death.
In one of the stories, a corporation released their own version of heaven.
Humans have already dreamed of heaven. We know that religion is made up, but why should that prevent you from going to heaven?
We hook you up to our machine, and at your death moment, we capture and digitalise your soul and send it to your heaven. Our most popular option turns you into a secret spy, with fast cars, gadgets, and photo models.
Yes, it is expensive. Almost all your life savings expensive. But living multiple lifetimes like James Bond is worth it!
And your relatives can connect to our server and watch you if they want.

The "problem" was that you cant digitalise a soul. It created a digital copy of you on the server while your soul went to heaven.
Heaven was soon filled with angry souls that didnt get what they were promised.
God tried to tell them that he never promised them that they would be James Bond.
Priests said that they told them so when they were still alive.
The people were angry because they had paid their life savings for a promise to be James Bond.

You have to do something about preserving the brain. Even if you could resuscitate the body, if the brain goes the human goes.

I wonder what would happen if you recreate that person, piece by piece. You take every cell and atom and arrange them to the original moment before they died and created their exact replica. I wonder if they would become them or someone else.
