I did live in the basement of my Grandmas house. It was a two bedroom house and for about a year before we moved my grandmas room was emptied and cleaned. It was easier to move into the basement than keep the room together and my uncle didnt want to put the air conditioner back in the window for the attic room* Id been using. After my grandma passed, my uncle wanted to sell the house. His wife is a lawyer, so he was going to win any court cases as the house was left to both him and my mom. I was in high school during this time.

The attic room was not legally a bedroom. At some point, in my moms childhood presumably, my grandfather added some paneling to section off part of the attic and my uncle used it as a bedroom at some point in his youth (he also used part of the basement as well, presumably the part that Id moved into).

No, their house never had one.
