Yeah, I don't think that fits. From the early 30s to the late 50s, Hollywood was not protected by the First Amendment and was instead run by a racist, sexist, homophobic, and theocratic Hays Code. It certainly wasn't woke back then.

It wasn't woke when we had White people in redface playing Native Americans in westerns under the excuse that they worried about reigniting hostilities if Native Americans were allowed to shoot at White people on screen.

It wasn't woke when movies were banned in the Southern US if Black people stood shoulder to shoulder with White people during World War II.

It wasn't woke when Mickey Rooney played a Japanese man by taping his eyes at the side and wearing buckteeth.

I miss the days when conservative conspiracy theorists were fringe, now they are the mainstream of the party.
