the lowest i ever made was $6.85 canadian which works out to $5.27 USD at that time.

They could be doing better things with their time.I can see someone making the argument that it's better for the kid to focus on studies and make sure they get a scholarship or something for college. But I feel like that's not really the choice most teens are having to choose between. More teens should work, especially during the summer months at the minimum. The last time I worked for minimum wage was high school in the early 90s. Honestly even if I was a high school kid now it would be virtually impossible to work for minimum wage. Every place around me in bumfuck farmer area of the Midwest hires for $15. Well above minimum wage.
