Ah damn. So both sides of the machines have weight scales on it there? We have one side that's just like a resting place for your items before scanning and then placing them onto the part that has a weight sensor

I won't lie and say I have never stolen

I stole stuff as a middle schooler, but never from a self checkout.

As such, there is no poll option for me

I played with the scales once out of curiosity to save myself literal cents.

It's super easy to do. Just support some of the weight instead of resting it completely on the scale.

In general I despise thievery though.

I wouldn't steal from a mom and pop store

Woolworths can handle the loss

The only time I ever ripped a store off was at Walmart and it was in a regular checkout and was totally the checkers fault.

I dont recommend that people steal from the self checkout because theyre watching now. Theres nothing at the grocery store thats worth peeing in a drug test cup for a probation officer for six months over.

Otherwise, I have no sympathy for the stores. Most people who do this just scan until they think the price is fair, then they pay and go. All theyre doing is giving them the price that they should be asking for, so I actually see the store as the party that is more wrong in the equation.

Its a dangerous mindset to view a corporation as a victim and your fellow citizen as the bad guy.

We have the one side where the basket/trolley etc. Goes then the scale where scanned goods go.

You have to put whatever is scanned on the scale and they are stupidly annoyingly precise where even the correct item being slightly too heavy makes it have a tantrum. I guess you could just not scan things and hope whoever they have watching doesnt notice you take things from the basket after you paid I guess, but trying to trick it seems very unlikely to work.

I accidentally forgot to scan an energy drink once but didn't realize it until I put my cart away and squished it somehow.

Any pastry I ring up as a donut regardless of what it is
