Triggers are not for the world to handle, they're for the person who experiences them to learn to overcome them. And if you cannot overcome them, you're supposed to learn how to deal with them in a healthy way.

This. Elmo never is put on an adult only show. As I already mentioned, they sometimes will have elmo on a news program and advertise ahead of time for kids to watch it

This, honestly. He has a trauma, that can't be understated, but he voluntarily chose to watch it knowing what it was about and then proceeded to huff about it.

For instance, I'm a childhood cancer survivor. To this day, I get pretty damn steamed over many things related to that, the most ludicrous of which is an irrational hatred of Lucy from Peanuts as, in my kid head, I assumed that the likewise bald Charlie Brown was also undergoing chemo. As a result, her being mean to Charlie Brown always incensed me during my treatments. Even decades later and knowing that that clearly wasn't the case, I always channel surf past literally anything Charlie Brown related as a tinge of that remains when she comes on screen. We can't control the baggage of our traumas necessarily.

Now, if I went out of my way to, say, go to a movie theater that was specifically showing a Peanuts movie marathon, sat down and watched a prolonged scene entirely about Lucy repeatedly tormenting Charlie Brown and pulling the football away, and I started shouting at the theater manager, I wouldn't have a leg to stand on, right? It was my choice to enter and watch, and overall it was a harmless bit.

Same here. While I understand that logic doesn't apply to visceral feelings, but it is readily and completely obvious that Larry David wasn't doing anything intentionally or actually bad. It was just a dumb joke on a dumb morning joke show.

And even if Wheaton caught this on accident, him being publicly upset and calling out Larry David would still be inane for the same reason as above and would be akin to me demanding that all channels pull all Peanut specials. Sometimes dumb jokes just trigger people when there clearly wasn't intent to do so.

The biggest thing is that he easily could have written it in such a way that it made sense, relative to the situation. The idea that "no depiction of anything that could considered child abuse, no matter how small or innocuous, should ever be trivialized as a joke" is a perfectly justifiable stance, but he just put it out into the world in the most moronic way possible. For a more reasonable take, he could have said his stance, compared it to something like Bart and Homer in the Simpsons, explained his trauma and how it might have affected him as a kid, and that would have been that.
