I like to think I'm flexible, but if something has a 35% aggregate score vs something that has a 75%, I'll be more likely to check out the latter.

Only time I can remember a review score influencing a purchase was when Game Informer gave Arkham City a 10/10, which made me realize 'wow, I've really been sleeping on this series, huh?' I went out and bought an Asylum / City combo pack a few days later.

That's honestly worst considering Audience Scores are more susceptible to review bombing than critics score.

Best way to go about it is to find reliable reviewers that you share similiar opinions with, because most likely they're going to watch the movie before you do.

That mostly applies to Zelda games. Reviewers dare not give them anything less than a 9 after the last uprising.

Yeah, I don't want to waste my time on shit.

Maybe for movies, where I often align with critics, but not at all for games. Games journalism is a few gems surrounded by a lot of shit.

I generally don't care, if it's something I want to watch or play I'm going to do so eventually. But the lower the score is it does make me push back doing so until later.

I'd rather have one that's more nuanced than reactionary like audience reviews are.

The problem is that nowadays, even something as simple as just having female or non-white characters is enough for certain elements to make their displeasure known.

Most of the review bombs are for political reasons or just piss off fans though. I normally take most reviews with a grain of salt, especially audience scores.

And that's fine. If you've been agreeing with the audience scores, out of good faith, than more power to ya. I just find it very unreliable because it's too sporadic.

Yeah same. It doesn't even have to be critics, because they are also suspectible to politics swaying their opinions, you can also look at individual user reviews through things like IMDB or LetterBoxd, that share your similiar opinion as well. I tend to prefer LetterBoxd users because they're more likely to be less bias, politics wise, than IMDB users.

If I want a game I do not look. If I am looking for a game I will look at scores and reviews. I will look at why as well.

Some non popular games have cool stuff. I played Tao's Adventure. As I rule I dislike dungeon crawlers but the floors and enemies worked and you could recruit. There was a hilarious quest 3/4's of the way thru which you had to do as this old dude and what you found at the end was not what you expected.
