I apologize for not posting the game summaries or updating the spreadsheet yesterday, but I will later on (plus I will send out injury PMs to the two teams that need to make a move)

As my season is completely in the gutter and I am likely trying to overhaul everything next season. The following players are on the trade block

DE Melvin Ingram (92 - 29yo)
HB Christian McCaffrey (90 - 27yo)

Both are expiring but young so you would be trading for them with the intent to resign them next year rather than treating them as rentals. For the cost a rental would fetch, I'd just keep them

Their OVRs may have changed during the season with how trash the team has been but I can have KCF verify if there's any interest

With the conclusion of Week 12, that means it is time to post the playoff pictures for each conference.

AFC Playoff Picture

Playoff Teams
1. Columbus Pioneers 8-3 (AFC South leaders)
2. Denver Broncos 7-4 (AFC West leaders)
3. Davenport Browns 7-4 (AFC North leaders)
4. Miami Dolphins 6-5 (AFC East leaders)
5. Jacksonville Jaguars 8-3 (Wild Card)
6. Oakland Raiders 7-4 (Wild Card)

Playoff Contenders
7. Buffalo Bills 6-5
8. Baltimore Ravens 6-5
9. Kansas City Chiefs 5-6
10. Cincinnati Bengals 5-6
11. Tennessee Titans 5-6
12. New England Patriots 5-6
13. New York Jets 4-7
14. Indianapolis Colts 3-8
15. Portland Express 3-8

Eliminated from Playoff Contention
16. Pittsburgh Steelers 1-10

I want to say that the Colts and Express might still have paths to winning a tiebreaker if they lose, but of all the 6-5 or 7-4 AFC teams, the only one of them with a win is the Express vs the Dolphins

NFC Playoff Picture

Playoff Teams
1. Seattle Seahawks 10-1 (NFC West leaders)
2. Atlanta Falcons 8-3 (NFC South leaders)
3. Dallas Cowboys 6-5 (NFC East leaders)
4. Detroit Lions 5-6 (NFC North leaders)
5. St. Louis Rams 9-2 (Wild Card)
6. San Juan Orcas 7-4 (Wild Card)

Playoff Contenders
7. Las Vegas Pumpkins 6-5
8. Washington Commanders 5-6
9. Tampa Bay Buccaneers 5-6
10. San Francisco 49ers 5-6
11. Philadelphia Eagles 5-6
12. Minnesota Vikings 5-6
13. Carolina Panthers 4-7
14. New York Giants 4-7
15. Chicago Bears 3-8
16. Green Bay Packers 3-8

Because of the NFC North and East being in the state that they are in, no team can be eliminated yet. The Panthers are currently the team in the most danger being 4 games back of the division and 3 to a playoff spot.

16. Pittsburgh Steelers 3-10

Despite being 6-7, I'm almost certain that the Chiefs and Titans are eliminated since the Broncos/Raiders hold the tiebreaker over the former and Pioneers/Jags over the latter with the Chiefs and Titans being three games back with three to play.

Jets can only get in via the division and will be eliminated with a loss or Dolphins win.

I believe that the Pats are eliminated with a loss and Dolphins win

Seahawks are in with a win, tie, or Pumpkins loss (they play each other two times over the final three weeks)

Vikings are eliminated with a loss to the Lions in Week 15, which would subsequently give the Lions the NFC North crown.

49ers are eliminated with a loss or Pumpkins win/tie

Giants are eliminated with a loss or Cowboys win

AFC Playoff Picture

Playoff Teams
1. Columbus Pioneers 11-4 (won AFC South)
2. Denver Broncos 10-5 (AFC West leaders, clinched playoff spot)
3. Davenport Browns 10-5 (won AFC North)
4. Miami Dolphins 7-8 (AFC East leaders)
5. Oakland Raiders 10-5 (Wild Card, clinched playoff spot)
6. Jacksonville Jaguars 9-6 (won Wild Card)

12. Indianapolis Colts 6-9
13. Tennessee Titans 6-9
14. New York Jets 5-10
15. Pittsburgh Steelers 5-10
16. Portland Express 5-10

Only the Pioneers and (theoretically) Broncos can get the #1 seed, but it is also possible that the Pioneers have it locked up.

The Jaguars have the head-to-head tiebreaker over both the Bengals and Ravens, so that is why even though the game doesn't list it, they have clinched a playoff spot.

Broncos win AFC West with a win or Raiders loss, Raiders win AFC West with a win and Broncos loss/tie.

The AFC East tiebreakers are set in stone with it being Dolphins > Patriots > Bills, so you can work out the various scenarios that give each one the division.

15. Minnesota Vikings 5-10
16. Chicago Bears 3-12

Falcons evidently have the tiebreaker over the Seahawks, so they get the #1 seed with a win or Seahawks loss, Seahawks get it with a win and Falcons loss/tie

NFC East is a little wacky with the tie and their H2H records (Eagles > Cowboys, Cowboys > Commander, Commanders > Eagles). Eagles win the NFC East with a win or losses/ties by both the Cowboys and Commanders. An Eagles loss + Commanders and/or Cowboys win would leave one of the others to win the East. Eagles loss, Cowboys win, and Commanders loss gives it to the Dallas. Eagles loss, Cowboys loss/tie, and Commanders win would give it to Washington. For pure chaos, you want Eagles tie, Cowboys win, and Commanders win.

Orcas own tiebreakers over Pumpkins, so Orcas get in with a win or Pumpkins loss. Pumpkins need a win and Orcas loss/tie.

Bears have secured the #1 overall pick, which is owned by the Raiders

I post this every season the playoffs roll around, but I'm here to tell you who the SB contenders are this postseason based on historical data. I don't tell people ad nauseum that the best path to success is defense and the running game for nothing. I think we can also add turnover differential now that offenses are on the decline and defenses on the rise, but I never collected seasonal data for that.

Of the previous 36 teams to make the SB, 33/36 have finished in the top half of the league in running offense while 31/36 have finished in the Top 10 on defense. The exceptions were the inaugural season Dolphins (19th on D), S13's Pioneers (11th on D), S14's Pioneers (18th in rushing), S15's Vikings (11th on D), S16's Rams (24th in rushing), S18's Browns (25th on D) and S18's Vikings (25th in rushing, 13th on D).

Your SB contenders this season are...
Columbus Pioneers (7th in rushing, 1st on defense)
Denver Broncos (10th in rushing, 2nd on defense)
Oakland Raiders (T-15th in rushing, 3rd on defense)
Philadelphia Eagles (5th in rushing, 6th on defense)
St. Louis Rams (T-15th in rushing, 4th on defense)

The remaining are problematic (some very much so) in one or both areas
Atlanta Falcons (4th in rushing, 19th on defense)
Davenport Browns (17th in rushing, 17th on defense)
Detroit Lions (18th in rushing, 25th on defense)
Jacksonville Jaguars (14th in rushing, 24th on defense)
Miami Dolphins (31st in rushing, 7th on defense)
San Juan Orcas (27th in rushing, 16th on defense)
Seattle Seahawks (28th in rushing, 10th on defense)

It should be noted that the Dolphins, Orcas, and Seahawks have each suffered numerous injuries in the backfield and each have 3+ players record a start at HB. The Dolphins and Seahawks will each have their starting HB return for their first playoff game.

To Do:
- Regular Season Stat Leaders
- Playoff Power Rankings
- Update Spreadsheet
- Send out stat/injury PMs
- Award ballots
- Archive more stuff

Right now, I'm leaning toward the award ceremony and playoff sim to take place somewhere on the weekend of the 26th-28th of this month.

KCF's Playoff Power Rankings

1. Atlanta Falcons
2. Oakland Raiders
3. Columbus Pioneers
4. St. Louis Rams
5. Seattle Seahawks
6. Denver Broncos
7. Davenport Browns
8. Miami Dolphins
9. San Juan Orcas
10. Jacksonville Jaguars
11. Detroit Lions
12. Philadelphia Eagles

The Falcons were great all season and were sitting behind the trio of Seahawks/Rams/Pumpkins before chipping away and getting past all three in the end. This is the first #1 NFC seed for the Falcons, and they earned it. After years of regression in QB play, Patrick Mahomes's 92.6 passer rating was the best we've seen in years, and he was one of three qualified QBs (Jalen Hurts and DeShaun Gaines the others) who had at least twice as many TDs as INTs. The Falcons lost superstar HB David Johnson early, but they signed the reigning HB of the Year Kenyan Drake, and he picked up where he left off with highly productive play with 1443 yards and 9 TDs and just 2 fumbles in 12 starts. They are great at protecting the ball and getting their opponents to cough it up (3rd best at both). They score at will (1st) and are one of the best at preventing scoring (T-7th). This team has overcome a plethora of injuries and just haven't slowed down. They get home field advantage where they went 7-1 (only loss in Week 2). With the Seahawks and Rams combined for a 3-5 record in the final quarter of the season, the Falcons have to love their odds.

The Raiders did not get a bye, but it can be argued that they are the league's best team. They enter the playoffs with the #4 offense, #3 defense, 4th in scoring, 8th in turnover differential (+7), and 4th in points allowed. They had a very balanced offense and were one of three teams to finish in the Top 10 in rushing and passing TDs. What makes their defensive and turnover rankings more impressive is that they didn't rely on sacks or takeaways to get those marks. For a team that entered the season with no realistic playoff aspirations coming in with a retooled roster given cap constraints and have been a poor offensive team for many seasons, their performance this season, including going 11-2 after and 0-3 start, is nothing short of amazing. They don't have the benefit of guaranteed home games beyond the wild card round, but this might be the best Raiders' team in our league's history, and I'm just getting good vibes from them.

The Pioneers' nearly made their third Super Bowl last season, but they get another crack at it with the #1 seed. Their season mirrored the Broncos in the first half. Both had the league's best or second best offense and defense with a weirdly bad turnover differential that was more due to lack of takeaways than coughing it up to the opponent. The Pioneers ultimately settled with the #1 D, #3 O, and placed 10th in points for and against. They barely improved their turnover differential though (-9), and they alarmingly gave up tied for the second-most sacks at 57, though that can be somewhat blamed on backup RT Alex Moe's 10 allowed in his 10 starts in relief of Reggie Harris. The AFC is more open-ended field than the AFC, but the Pioneers have the advantage of getting home field until the SB, so that might be the edge they need.

Because the Rams will realistically have to play three road games, I can't put them any higher than this, but rest assured that they are the best team in the NFC. They finished 1st on offense, including their first top-half rushing attack since they had Romance Taylor, 4th on defense, 2nd in points for, 3rd in points allowed, and absolutely blasted their opponents more often than not even when they kept piling up on offensive injuries. They do have a spotty record against teams in the playoffs, scoring 17 points or fewer against the Seahawks (twice), Orcas, and Browns, with their Week 17 game against the Eagles their only convincing win against a potential playoff foe. I guess it is a good thing that they play the Eagles yet again to start. Because Madden can be wonky with playoff seeding matchups in later rounds, I can't accurately predict their path, but with the Seahawks injuries, they could get some favorable matchups in the opening two rounds.

Oh Seahawks. You started 10-0, but then the injuries kept piling up, and you just gave way offensively. The defense was still styming people (finished 2nd in points allowed) until you met the Pumpkins twice. Now you will be without CB Bene Benwikere and QB Gardner Minshew for the playoffs. The good news is that WR Amari Cooper and HB Kareem Hunt will be returning for their first game, which thankfully for them is in the divisional round after they secured a bye. Even with their poorly-timed woes, I think that they still have good Super Bowl odds. The NFC is top-heavy so if they somehow get one or two of Eagles/Lions/Orcas in their first two games, boy will that be a relief for them. They led the NFC with 19 giveaways in 16 games, and only the Falcons finished in the Top 10 in takeaways among NFC Playoff Teams, so their style of play should really give them an advantage.

The Broncos were the last AFC team to fall, but they went 4-6 the rest of the way, and they did finish with the league's easiest schedule, raising some fraud concerns. They aren't in the upper tier of the SB contenders, but I don't think their contender status should be in question though. No matter who you play, having the #2 defense and #1 scoring defense is pretty fraud-proof. Also of note is that while they struggled in the second half in terms of wins and losses, they were much better with turnovers. They were one of the worst teams in their differential (I remember they were 28th-30th at one point at -8 to -10). They finished in the middle of the pack at -2. Their issues lie squarely on offense and specifically their running game since Ward did pretty well, and the WR combo of Demaryius Thomas and D.J. Moore was one of the best in the league. Melvin Gordon missed most of the team's 6-0 start, and in his place DeAndre Washington was an excellent dual threat HB with Darnay Lopez providing phenomenal efficiency (5.7 YPC). Gordon has been the worst HB on the team this season with just 3 TDs and a 3.7 YPC (albeit with no fumbles). If he even does a little better and the rest of the team basically holds steady, they can make a deep run.
The Browns' #1 offense last season was realistically going to regress, and it did all the way to 13th. Their defense did improve quite well to 17th though. Their points for and against rankings are considerably better than their off/def rankings (5th points for, T-7th points against), but I think in the context of this game, with how prolific the return game and the amount of turnovers there are, the off/def rankings are better indicators of your team. With that said, the Browns are 9-2 after a 2-3 start while several of their AFC does are scuffling.

The Dolphins could be a big wild card here and the end of teams with at least decent Super Bowl odds to me. The defense is great in all aspects, finishing 7th overall, but for the second straight season, they suffered an onslaught of injuries targeting all levels of their offense. While not completely healthy with multiple offensive starters either done for the season or still on the mend, they just got back their #1 QB and HB. Their -1 turnover differential is not reflective of their team as the vast majority of those giveaways were by backups. They had the 6th most takeaways at 36, so combined with the return of Daniel Jones and Samaje Perine, they could be primed for a run.

The Orcas struggled mightily with injuries specifically to their secondary and HBs this season. It was reflected in the defense drop to 16th and 27th ranked rushing offense. They get some players back for their first game against the Lions, but none of the injury signings have turned their fortunes around running the ball, so I fear that will cap their ceiling even if they have more star players and talent than most of their potential opponents.

The Jags were 9-3 and leading the AFC. They lost the final four games and finished with the 6th seed. That means that they need to win three straight road games before getting an NFC opponent. The good news is that they have a ton of cap space and are required to add to their roster due to injuries. If they can add some OL, their offense might pick back up, and maybe things can trend in a positive direction with some defensive strategy tweaks. I don't think their 9-3 start was exactly a mirage, so while I don't see them winning the Super Bowl, I wouldn't be too shocked if they got an upset or two.

The Lions picked #1 overall in back-to-back seasons, but they finally got out of their rut and are back in the playoffs. Their three divisional foes finishing in the rear of the conference certainly helped, but so did their free agency activity. They took what was a bottom three unit, grabbed multiple starting OL and a new QB, and they went all the way to 12th overall and 6th in scoring. The defense finished 25th, the worst among all playoff teams, so I can't imagine them making a deep run, let alone win the whole thing, but they do get a good opponent for them in the Orcas to start things off.

The Eagles can't play offense (22nd in scoring, 28th overall, 31st in passing, and Leonard Fournette of the 3.7 career YPC has a 3.6 mark this season). They are in the playoffs because the NFC East struggled this season, their defense finished 6th overall, and they had a +8 turnover margin. Those last two are great and all, and there is recent precedence of a team going to the Super Bowl with a major, glaring liability (Browns' D last season and Raiders' O the season before), but those two teams also had the #1 O and D respectively, and this Eagles squad just isn't good enough to carry itself to the Super Bowl.

End-of-Season Season Awards

The following posts will contain all the awards that will be given out this season. While participation is optional, I would really appreciate it if you would take the 15 minutes or so out of your life to pick out your choices for each category and submit them to me via PM before the deadline.

Most of the awards are from the game itself. There are a few that are entirely of my creation. The former awards will have both a User and Madden winner while the later will solely have a User winner. The nominees for awards from the game will mostly come from the game itself with a few categories I will do from scratch. To prevent spoilers, I reorder the nominees by team name, first name, or last name every year (except Breakout/Comeback is by positional order and GM is always by name). This year, I chose last name.

For each category, you choose the one player/coach/person you believe to be most worthy of the award. For the Offensive Player, Defensive Player, and MVP of the Year, awards, you do not have to vote for the any of the listed players. If you feel another player up for another award is applicable and more worthy for one of these awards, you may select them as a write-in candidate even though you should know they won't win. However, I will use my discretion to null a write-in vote if I feel it to be disingenuous.

I'm planning on doing the award ceremony/playoff sim sometime during 26th-28th, so while no date/time is set in stone yet, do know you will have roughly two weeks to get ballots in.

Breakout Player of the Year

Buccaneers HB Alvin Kamara

With the Bucs already pulling the plug on former top pick QB Trevor Largent, time was running out for Kamara after two straight seasons with no TDs and sub-4.0 YPC (29 games, 13 starts). Kamara helped keep the Bucs offense steady and finish in the top half of the league (15th) as they endured an up-and-down performance from rookie QB Justin Herbert with Karama finishing 3rd in the league with 1582 rushing yards on 4.1 YPC while also being the league's most prolific receiver out of the backfield (362 yards).
Broncos RE Jonathan Allen

Pumpkins WR Jakeem Grant

Primarily a returner for the Pumpkins, he was forced into the #1 WR role after the retirement of Hall of Famer Gonzie Massey. In just twelve games he amassed 82 receptions for 1095 yards and 11 TDs (on pace for 109 receptions for 1460 yards and 14 TDs before the season-ending injury) as his emergence helped the Pumpkins finish with the #2 offense in the league.

Eagles LT Le'Raven Clark

One of three pieces the Eagles received from the Broncos when they effectively had a three way trade that sent WR Ted Ginn Jr. to the Orcas and WR Demaryius Thomas to the Broncos, Clark had a disappointing first season as a starter with 57 blocks against 9 sacks allowed. Just a season later, he had one of the best block:sack ratios in the league with 67 blocks against a miniscule 2 sacks allowed as part of the playoff-bound Eagles OL that allowed the fewest sacks in the league (24).

Broncos RE Jonathan Allen

The former 2nd round pick was tasked to step into the shoes of longtime starting DE Chris Johnson, and he put up modest numbers (20 tackles, 8 sacks) for the worst team and arguably defense the franchise has fielded. With no new defensive starters, Allen's play this season with 34 tackles and a league-leading 16 sacks can be pointed to as one of the main reasons why they finished 2nd in the league in total defense and 1st in scoring defense.

Falcons LOLB J.J. Krause

Krause, a former Dolphins reserve had a very modest first two seasons starting with the Falcons (165 total tackles, 2 FRs), and entering the final year of the contract, there were rumblings about the Falcons taking an OLB in the first in anticipation of letting him walk in the following offseason. The Falcons went in another direction, and Krause played like he wants to stay (and get paid). He put up 143 tackles, 2 sacks, 2 INTs, 5 FRs, and a TD as he helped the Falcons D finish 3rd in takeaways (39) and T-7th in scoring D (17.5 points) as the Falcons received the #1 seed in the NFC.

Comeback Player of the Year

Bears HB Giovanni Bernard

Ever since the 49ers let their former 1st rounder walk and installed Thomas Rawls as the starter, Bernard has been another one of those in-season injury replacements, getting 2-9 starts for the Rams, Broncos, and Chiefs before failing to land with a team in the regular season last year. When the Bears lost Dexter McCluster for the season during the preseason, Bernard was given the call and his first opportunity to start a full season since S13. He easily had the best season of his career has he posted career best marks with 1469 rushing yards on 4.5 YPC and 10 TDs as he looks to make Chicago his forever home.

Rams HB Jeremy Hill

One of the key pieces the Bears received in the WR Jordan Matthews/TE Burton trade with the Express, the former DeMarco Murray backup was a good HB for the Bears, posting over 1000 yards nearly every season while never falling below a 4.0 YPC and being a good receiver out of the backfield. The Bears thought that they could do better though and employed the future Hall-of-Famer Dexter McCluster. That left Hill as a backup with an expiring contract. Once he hit the open-market, the Rams allowed him to avoid the fate of being a journeyman injury replacement. Hill responded with the best season of his career with 1407 yards on 4.3 YPC and 14 total TDs as the Rams navigated a glut of offensive injuries en route to an 11-5 season and a playoff berth.

49ers HB Thomas Rawls

Rawls was limited to just three games last season, and the 49ers offense imploded. With a full, healthy season this year, the 49ers' offense rose all the way to 14th as Rawls set career highs in every major category with 1893 rushing yards on 4.7 YPC, 17 TDs, and 270 rec yards as he is expected to take home some awards.

Jets RT Anthony Collins

Collins had a great run with the Browns before surprisingly not being re-signed. He didn't latch onto a team for awhile, and when he became an RT replacement with the Cowboys, he had an ugly 49 blocks vs 9 sacks allowed. He was signed as a replacement with the Jets the following season and put up an even worse ratio of 51 blocks vs 10 sacks allowed. The Jets saw something in him though and re-signed him to a 3 year deal. He rewarded them with the best seasons of his career posting a league-high 85 blocks and allowed just five sacks as he helped lead the way for an injury riddled backfield to play way above their skill levels with multiple sub-80 HBs posting some absurd games.

Buccaneers LE Leonard Williams

The Buccaneers' suffered a huge blow to their rebuilding process last season as their offense and defense regressed to bad levels. Williams, a former sack leader and DL of the Year finalist, had an unbearably ugly line of 18 tackles and 3 sacks in 16 starts. With two top DE prospects available to them, nobody would have been surprised if they grabbed one of them to ultimately replace Williams after his contract expired, but they didn't and Williams rebounded with 31 tackles, 12 sacks, 1 FF, and 1 FR as the Bucs finished with the 5th-ranked defense in the league.

+ Took over a horrible financial situation with the Raiders and retooled/restrategized the team where they finished 11-5, an AFC West crown, and finished with the #4 offense, #3 defense, 4th in scoring, 8th in turnover differential (+7), and 4th in points allowed
+ Retooled the Pumpkins offense from retirements and expired contracts and helped them rise to 2nd in the league and 3rd in points for, going 10-6 in the process

- Won 1 fewer game with the Pumpkins and missed the playoffs with them

MegamanX
+ Finished 12-4, winning the NFC South and the team's first #1 conference seed
+ Signed players coming off of down seasons like SS Eric Murray and C Ethan Pocic and saw them post career best stats

- Had more of a hands-off approach as some of their better moves were the result of AI/commissioner

TheKnightOfNee
+ Went from picking #1 overall to making the playoffs as the Lions went 9-7 and winning the NFC North
+ Spent heavily on free agency, including two starting OL and a HB and saw their offense rise to 12th after being one of the league's worst last season

- Work on defense didn't yield much positive results as it still finished in the Bottom 10 and worst among playoff teams (25th)

TheSultanOfSlam
+ Ended a long playoff drought (S12) by going 9-7 and securing the final wild card
+ Drafted QB Jalen Hurts who had one of the best rookie seasons from a QB in many seasons as he's up for multiple awards

- Didn't adjust to injuries as their running game suffered with few healthy interior OL and backed into the playoffs with a four-game losing streak

VeryInsane
+ Improved upon their record from last season as they went 11-5 and secured a first round bye
+ Invested in their defense signing three new starters and using their first two draft picks for top backup positions as their defense rose to 17th after being in the 20s

- Offense dropped more than the defense rose (1st to 13th)
