The base game of GTA4 was only decent, but the DLCs were amazing IMO.

Resident Evil Remake. It's fan sem to think it's the second coming or something.

Pretty much any Zelda game. They aren't bad, just.... I dunno

I dunno why people keep saying FF7 is overrated when the game gets a shit ton of hate as well. An overrated game should be over-praised with little to no criticism, not a game I just dislike.

I couldn't get into Baldur's Gate 3 at all. The gameplay simply was not for me, but beyond that the characters didn't capture me either.

Honestly?

The story itself isnt anything special either. It's definitely Lairen's best, but imo doesn't compare to the other modern 'crpgs'.

I still adore it though.

People really liked it when it first came out because that was the era of pushing games as art and it was a game with a "real" story but people soured on it pretty quickly.

Personally I liked the first Red Dead Redemption a lot better; it was far less micromanagey and I couldn't get into 2.

TLOU 1&2 are barely better than a regular Ubisoft game.

I'm gonna be hated by some for this. I didn't particularly enjoy God of War(2018) it never reached out and grabbed me and kept me playing.

Gone Home. Ended way too soon wtf. I thought it'd have a forest section. I thought the house was just a prologue

TLOU are a bit different but Sony's MO for a few years now seems to be making Ubisoft games that are 8/10 instead of 7/10.

Fifa games. Sure they have a falling reputation, but the sales are still way too high. Single handedly keeping EA afloat through all of their dumb decisions.

Shante games. Man for as loved as the series is you'd think it would eventually grow and evolve with each release but to never does.

Not really "universally" praised, but this is my general overrated list, as in difference between consensus and my opinion. I also am more likely to consider it overrated if it's the type of game I would like.

Yep, for that reason any level of over-ratedness it may have had has been cancelled out imo.

Not so much for the quality of either game, but rather for how much people talk about God of War and Dark Souls.

There was a period in the late 2000s where everything got called like God of War, but Yahtzee did this a lot. Meanwhile my response was yeah, God of War, I remember when that was called Devil May Cry - shouldnt we be saying like Devil May Cry instead?

As for Dark Souls, its more that From Software became known as the Dark Souls guys. While I was like uh, I remember playing Armored Core 2 in 2001, they were the AC guys long before Dark Souls.

So again, not so much that I think either game is overrated (havent played either but I assume theyre solid), just that Im sick of hearing about them in an I feel old kind of way.

No, Ages had an actual story, time travel is more interesting than changing seasons (even if less original), and I like other little things better as well.

Granted, I may have initially been a bit tough on Seasons (which I did play first) since I was expected some huge nostalgic return to LA and didn't get it.

The 3d Mario games. Feels so average in every aspect. I have no idea how that game gets 90+ scores constantly

Both games in the god of war reboot. Man, where to begin... These two change the tone so hard on the series it feels fake and eye rolling, the combat is a complete downgrade, there's way too many stretches of boring dialogue and exposition, the sequel meanders too much then shoves everything at the last quarter for a wet fart of a resolution that does nothing for the Kratos and loki as a character.

I was hyped after the trailer for 2 but my god, I cannot comprehend how it sold as much as it did.

Any MGS game. Every one is praised to the heavens and back, but I just don't get it. The controls are clunky, the stealth is underwhelming, it's marred with cutscenes and extraneous and pointless dialogue, and the story is a mess, plain and simple.

I'm glad to see I'm not alone in thinking this, but nearly all major R* games post San Andreas.

GTAIV is boring to play and the story is undercut by being a GTA game. I can't take Niko talking about trying to overcome his past as a child soldier seriously when I mowed down four people thirty seconds ago because it was faster to drive over the sidewalk.

GTAV is better, but I've played it twice now and give up shortly after the first big heist.

RDR is probably the exception, but I played it long after it was released, so I'm giving it the benefit of the doubt for the flaws I did find.

RDR2 is one I will admit is a masterpiece, but actually playing it is just so. Fucking. Tedious. Why does looting a body have a four second animation? And god, the hunting and skinning animations too. I made it a bit into act two and just couldn't be bothered to keep going.

R*'s obsession with realism is to the detriment of their games actually being fun to play. I don't know why this is the one that sticks with me, but the one that always galled me was the toll both in GTAIV. If you don't stop and pay a dollar, you get a wanted level and even a single star is mildly annoying in that game thanks to the method of getting rid of them.

The Last of Us. Bog standard zombie genre storytelling, and it's pretty mid in terms of presentation.

I didnt play it until 2020 on PS4, so maybe the appeal of gigantic bosses was lost on me, compared to what it woulda been on PS2. I also didnt understand the need for a fairly large open world that is 99% empty.

I can absolutely understand why people woulda loved the game when it first came out, and Im not one of those If I dont like it, then no one should type of people. Its just a game that isnt for me.
