Try Memories of Celceta. Easily accessible on modern platforms and is very similar to 8 and 9, though older and a bit more aged

Ys 7 is also like those games (its the first game to have party members and introduce the slash, smash, and pierce type weapons) and is also pretty good.

I'm looking forward to this one.

8 was one of my favorite games from that generation.
Never played any of the others :V

Looking forward to it.... but I really wish they would lower the god damn base price of 9. It's still 80 CAD prior to discounts. Yes its on sale now for half off, but even half off its still 50 dollars CAD. I have other games I'm playing atm so its not a big deal right now, but the game released 3 years ago. At this point this is some Nintendo pricing.

Different style of game. Early FF/DQ games are turn-based, Ys has always been action rpg from my knowledge. It's also one continuous story unlike Final Fantasy, So it features the same main character, but each game has their own story confined to that one game, and barely mentions the previous games. So it would be like.... World of Warcraft in that regards. In Burning Crusade you may have characters from Vanilla but the story itself is kept within that expansion.

Hell yeah! Ys 9 didn't top 8, but was still a lot of fun. I'm hyped for 10

9 is indeed the furthest it's gone. And 9 also has the most references to his other adventures, though not enough to require playing them. 9 treats adol like a seasoned fighter that's seent some shit

Its on Steam like all other Ys games that aren't 5.
Though if one doesn't have Steam/gaming PC than yeah I could see trying to nab an old PSP game being rough.

You and me both. I've enjoyed all of them so far. Even the weakest one, Origin, was fun in its own way.

5 and 6 are the only ones I haven't played or own. Shame too because 7 actually referenced 6 and I was bugged that I didn't get what they were referring to.
