I was playing a dwarf druid last time but i didn't particularly feel attached to it.

should i just pick one of the origin characters? Dark Urge looks fully customizable but i don't like the murderhobo backstory terribly much.

Playing an origin character is basically a strict downgrade from just having them in the party, because they just become a silent protagonist and you miss out on all their dialogue.

I'd recommend just playing a custom Tav, and playing a charisma class like a sorcerer or paladin since you'll be the face of the party.

if i want to be a goody two shoes what party should i run then?

i really dislike being "evil" or "a dick" in rpgs

Dark urge good run. You don't have to murder anyone if you don't want, but it still changes the game in fun ways.

Gale, Wyll, and Karlach will approve of just about everything you do in a good playthrough. Shadowheart will generally approve of good things. Lae'zel will occasionally disapprove, but not enough that it will make a difference. Astarion is where most of the trouble will come from, but if you keep up with his personal quest, the approval gains from helping him there will generally make up for approval lost through dialogue options.

If you dislike evil actions, you probably aren't gonna want to play Durge. It's possible to play a "redeemed" Durge who does good things in-game, but there's still a bunch of very, very evil stuff baked into their backstory that you can't change.

i've never played any other baldur's gate game before. i got to the mountain pass on my dwarf druid in this one before, but it's been like 6 months since i've played

First time playing dont go Dark Urge. Its the evil playthrough and even though you can resist the temptations, youll still be dealing with being evil the whole time. Go with a custom character and make something like a pally or mage. A mage is a bit weak at first until like act 2, but its also pretty fun to play. I enjoyed being a pally too as a melee character.

Well, durge is clearly the more canon imo as actually treats it as a 'third game' rather than just using the title.

That's the fun part, it's the ultimate redemption character struggling to fight against the worst of their inner urges.

But yeah as for good run chars I find Wyll and Karlach are the best companions. Round it out with Shadowheart or Gale, and maybe use the others (Halsin, Jaheira, Minsc) later on.

You can respec anyone early on into a lock picker if you want. Otherwise you gotta bring Astarion, but he's a sour puss on good runs

I'm still really early game, but my bard has been picking locks just fine between a mild dex bonus, Jack of all Trades, and Shadowheart's Guidance.

Tbh, I've never really felt that you needed a dedicated lockpicker. You can make do by just taking the party member with the highest DEX and giving them items that increase sleight of hand. If you really want to, you can give someone a single level in Rogue for the proficiency.

Mages get a lockpicking spell. That + just busting down the occassional door is enough if you play a mage.

Also just anyone with good dex is good enough for picking in a pinch

I've heard storm sorcerer is pretty busted

I tend to take Draconic because I like the +3 AC and the bonus to elemental damage.

Oh, it might be in BG3. The max spell level in DND is ninth. I was just making a joke about Crash to Desktop being an even stronger spell than Wish.

oh. i don't know much about dnd so that went over my head.

so my mods from a long time ago are just being problems right now, so i uninstalled the game, deleted everything that was left over in the game folder and in the appdata folder.

reinstalling now, so hopefully in 20 hours i can actually play the damn game. (edit 9 1/2 hours)

I'm gonna wait until the UI mod gets an update before I boot the game up. That's generally the only one I really have to wait for after a new update.

I've had some minor annoyances. Like trying to compare weapon/armor stats is kind of a pain.

For me it just makes more sense with it being the third. If it's not about bhaalspawn, why make it part of the bhaalspawn series?

You can respec your companions. I made my Wyll a Bard who eventually also took 2 levels in Warlock, and bards can get expertise in sleight of hand. You're good.

alright, i finally managed to download the game. it took long enough that i went to bed and it was finished when i got up.

gonna make a sorcerer, maybe a half-elf.

Dark Urge is pretty much the canon playthrough imo, i highly recommend it.

highly disagree. Dark Urge is so connected to the story in a way that a generic player character isn't. Some story beats are so much better with the Dark Urge.

I would pick based on what you want your primary damage type to be.

- Fire? Go Draconic since it has the best damage output and gets all of the fire spells.

- Lightning? Go Storm since they get Call Lightning at level 6 which Draconic Sorcerers don't have access to.

- Ice? Either works. Draconic if you want to squeeze out more damage. Storm if you want the bonus action flying skill they get after casting a spell.

It's probably best to stay away from Wild Magic, since you probably don't want to deal with the randomness of it on your 1st playthrough.

Recommending that you take 2 levels in tempest cleric so you can use Channel Divinity to roll max damage on lightning spells. You can also fit 1 or 2 levels in Wizard so you can use scrolls.

This sounds good in theory, but it requires some work to be good in practice. You can take a level in Wizard, but since the amount of spells you can memorize is based on your INT, then if you want to get any value out of it you're either going to have to wear the Headband of Intellect the entire game, or you're going to have to focus on INT instead of CHA.

i ended up doing a honour mode game with a friend and i'm a Dark Urge Death Knight. Oathbreaker Paladin and Blade Pact Warlock.

we're level 5, and there's been some very spicy fights, but we've managed to not wipe so far.

about to head into the teahouse

my computer has started bluescreening when i do this game. guess it's just not for me
