Like if there's a DLC bonus pack that let's you start with a bunch of extra money and some strong af items. Would you say that's cheating and making the game too easy?

You can get DLC for the Resident Evil 2 and 3 Remakes that gives you all infinite weapons.

It's not 'cheating' to use available resources.

If it makes the game so easy it stops being enjoyable, don't do it. If it doesn't, do what you like.

I dont think they usually make much of a difference. Only real big one I can remember is Xenoblade 2s gacha currency so you could save scum for SSR Blades early on. Still no idea why they thought anyone would want an in-game gacha.

There used to be games that had pages of free cheat codes.

Now the cheat codes are hidden on the back of a credit card.

It's only cheating if it's a competitive game and you're getting an unfair advantage against others

In Just Cause 3, one of the DLCs gives you a jetpack and infinite Ammo for it's weapons. It... Trivializes the game if you get it as soon as possible.

So it's not cheating, but you're cheating yourself out of the (original) gameplay if you opt for it

Using the DLC bonus items in FE Engage kinda made Maddening difficulty too easy

I don't think it's cheating.

It's taking advantage of of an available resource that is literally put in there by the devs for the purpose you are using it for, which for me means that you're playing by the rules so by definition it can't be cheating.

Personally, I wouldn't do it, I don't see the point of P2W - why spend money buying a game only to then spend more money to essentially take away the point of the game? - and I can't imagine that there's any satisfaction or fun to be had in doing it, but while I think it's daft behaviour and I kinda think less of players who resort to it, I wouldn't class it as cheating.

People used to use the same justification for using cheat codes. "But the devs put them in the game, so its not cheating!" Only difference is now the devs have realized they can charge you money for it

I don't think it's cheating but dlc or pre-order stuff that is just in game money you can earn by playing seems like a bigger scam than mtx money to me.

I tend to splurge on DLC to get the "definitive" experience of games

Like the DLC items in Kingdoms of Amalur are nice but they'll be basically obsolete a couple levels after you grab them.

Depends on the game. Some DLC "bonuses" are only slightly better than starting equipment, if even that much. Others, like Persona 5 and Persona 5 Royal's DLC Personas, break any real challenge in the game like a twig by just how overpowered they are, on top of being able to summon them for no in-game money the first time around.

If it's allowed by the rules of the game it's not cheating. Even if it's a multiplayer game if the rules of the game allow one player to have advantages another player doesn't then it's not cheating.

Now that very well might be bad game design. But that's a separate question.

ya all my cute outfits i buy 4 my waifus gives me power beyond reckoning.

the last game that had P2W was yakuza: like a dragon. that had business management DLC that helped accelerate the completion of the minigame.

i would say make the game easier but it's not cheating imo (also goes for all P2W games).

also to note. i wouldn't buy the stat boost 6-8 pack. you can find those stat boosters making laps across the city if you progress enough in that game.

I dunno, I never use this stuff. DLC is good for extra missions and stuff but everything else is a hard pass.

It's not just that it makes the game easier. It also breaks the balance so that the overpowered shit is your only option, and it's frequently really crappily made anyway.

Oh, and if it's "timesaver DLC", that's definitely cheating, but the one cheating is the publisher who decided to design a game to be so damn tedious that it legitimately lets you pay to not play it.

If even that. Classic game prerelease tend to have the cheat codes as game options. Where stuff like the capcom, Konami, and Final Fantasy rereleases allow you to trigger on and off cheats at push of a button.

Not really. Those early bonus weapons and such are normally available within 2 hours and outclassed within 4.

Not cheating, but youll be stronger during the early game, making the game easier.

5R came to mind followed by Vesperia but by the same notion it's all free. Amd 5R outside of the Personas it's just consumables and money.

In a single player game it isn't cheating -- but you aren't getting the normal experience. Some games will give you some OP equipment or tons of money -- and I normally get rid of it or turn it off if I have the option

But P2W in multiplayer games should be outlawed. I played a mobile EA Star Wars game back in the day that was pay to win and people spent thousands upon thousands of dollars on it buying and upgrading characters. They even had special whale guilds that only big spenders with huge rosters could join.

That shit's cancerous and fucking stupid. No way were all of these people rich and not racking up credit cards just to call themselves a winner on some phone game.

Depends on the game and what it is.

If it is say, a jrpg, and it gives you extra money and potions, who cares. Ive used it because maybe im in NG+, or maybe i just wanted to experience the story and not have to grind rats for hours.

If it is a competitive game, like Splatoon, MW, Fortnite, etc, and the items give you an overwhelming edge, then yes, it is cheating,

Pay to win sucks. It's not really cheating though, it can just be really unfair depending on how willing or capable the other person is of coughing up for the same advantages.

I'd be less concerned that I might be cheating and more concerned that I'm playing a crap game that's trying to tempt me into the microtransaction cesspool. Try not to play games like that.

i dont think you can call pay to win cheating, but all forms of spending money for player power/currency are pay to win even if there are ways ingame to obtain the same items/currency

the lines blur at certain points. if someone spends $5000 USD to whale hardcore and maxes out their characters thats very different from playing traditionally

I don't know about cheating, but it definitely cheapens the experience. Usually, those things make you godly strong for the fist portion of the game. Ruins the experience of struggling, then getting stronger. I'm not above cheap stuff, like save scumming though. I just legitimately think it makes things less fun for me.

I wouldn't say its cheating, but it can definitely make games too easy. I'm looking at you P5R.
