Yes, this season was a complete shitshow. It had no idea what it wanted to be, and failed at all of it.
Absolutely dismal writing.

they usually review the first 1-4 episodes if it's something that's being released weekly.

I wouldn't be surprised if they only reviewed the first one or two episodes.

Just finished it. Episode 5 broke the streak of each episode being worse than the previous one imo, but the finale was brutal. I cant believe they dropped the time is a flat circle line in there. I will shoot your sick fucking mouth right off your face was another banger, maybe the worst line of the show and there were some bad ones.

I have a ton of questions that I know I just need to let go. That was god damn terrible.

On the plus side, the cleaning ladies bursting in like a SWAT team made me laugh like I havent in a while.

Is IMDb heavily botted or something? Reddit and elsewhere are all shitting on this episode, the actual written reviews on IMDb are all shitting on this episode, but the overall score is quite high. It also has a great critic score on RT and a not terrible audience score. I know you can just bot things to get whatever score you want now, but is this an outraged but vocal minority or do most people actually hate it?

The 2nd best first episode of the series after 1, but then nothing fucking happened. I liked season 2 and 3 but this was terrible.

WAAAT? Have yet to see it, but its mostly been a boring shitshow so far. Way too much character development and family drama that has mostly led nowhere and not enough progression of story.

I actually haven't even finished the first episode, lol.

I was waiting for the season to end, but I've been hearing a lot of bad things about the last few episodes.

The writer/director said that she intentionally left it so it could be explained all by facts or by the supernatural. But I call bullshit because (spoilers) Nevarro (sp?) definitely kills herself at the end and becomes the "spirit of the coming day." Also, they never give a factual explanation for the woman's dead lover leading her to things.

Yeah if youre really trying to make sense out of any of it, theres no way that there isnt a supernatural element. Problem is most of it was just thrown in there for intrigue and the spectacle of it, and had nothing to do with the storys resolution.

So between the half-dozen plot holes in each episode and all the teasing that only led to a flat finish (with some added ambiguity in there for good measure), just really not a great season.

How far could they have traveled through those caves for them to not take note of how close Tsalal was to where they started? I dont know if thats being nitpicky but thats the kind of question that the show generates in almost every scene.

i havent even bothered with True Detective season 3.

and since i've heard nothing but bad things about this one, guess i'll ignore it as well... lol

this finale was a train wreck; this show squandered a great initial episode and ended up as unintentionally hilarious nonsense

Not nitpicking, I thought the exact same. It would have been absolutely impossible for them to not realize the proximity to the facility.

It's not even true detective. It's some other story written and directed by 2 people unrelated to the franchise who got their story rebranded as "True Detective" for marketing purposes. The actual person who wrote and directed TD 1-3 stayed on as executive producer to cash those checks, but season 4 has always been some unrelated crew wearing the show's skin for easy money.

i keep seeing people talk about it and so i tried to read the plot summary on wikipedia but after the second episode it looks like episode 3-5 are just the plot blurbs on the streaming service and there's nothing for episode 6 so i guess i'll never know

The women sent the researchers out onto the ice naked, to be judged by...some entity (who they also refer to as Annie K's mother iirc), and then they'd either die or come back. So they must've been confronted by this entity and died of terror.

The first season is just so much better. Im watching the first episode. Rust and Martin are interviewing the dude. You can feel the heat and swampiness in the room. Martin gets up and takes his jacket off nonchalant during it, starts walking around, talking about the gangs in prison, prison tattoos. The level of depth is so different

I actually like this season. And she gotta be the goddess Sedna, it all lines up.

They did explain that they were buried and killed quickly by a freak "slab avalanche" event. Then the mystery was why were they out there naked to begin with? And that was also resolved in a very dumb way....

My theory explaining all the supernatural stuff is that all the pollution and toxins they had producing was leached into the ground and surrounding areas. Causing people to hallucinate.

Its not satisfying, but could fill a lot of plotholes.....

I mean, something definitely went wrong if you need a "the water was making them trip" fallback to fill plot holes. And actually, even that still wouldn't cover some of the shit that just goes completely unexplained, (or is just straight up nonsensical).

What a dumpster fire this turned out to be, expected more from a Jodie Foster led role. I stuck with it hoping it would have some amazing conclusion or make up for the middle filler episodes, but nope.

Probably done with True Detective now, they won't touch the quality of the first season ever again.

This series is basically American Horror Story. Only the first season is good
