I watched it on bluray a few days ago. I liked the Onyx sketches, but was unsure how I'd feel about watching a feature length movie starring the character. I ended up liking it quite a bit. I thought it was a fun 80s throwback with some neat nods to some horror comedy classics. I can't believe they were able to pull off so much with the limited budget they had.

Onyx wins an online contest to meet a famed occultist played by Jeffrey Combs, and take part in a group ritual with four other winners. I haven't seen the other actors playing the ritual participants in anything else, but they were all talented. Barbara Crampton has a brief appearance as Onyx's mom.

While Onyx is the focus, it's more of an ensemble film which helps balance out the purposely annoying Onyx. The winners all have special blood that's needed to perform the ritual. There's a witch (both the character and actor are non-binary. Fuck yeah, representation :) ), a lycan scholar, a viking widow that's overly cheerful, a tattooist queen and the virgin, Onyx. Over the course of the movie they learn to embrace who they are and believe in themselves.

I'd definitely like to see a sequel, I don't know. Onyx the Fortuitous is pretty cool.

Oh, and you get the origin story to one of Onyx's catchphrases and it's actually a pretty sad moment for the character. Every time I hear him say it, I'm going to be reminded of that scene.
