I will because I'm from somewhere every student in the country has to adhere to school dress and hair codes (we even have uniforms), so it's just normal for me.

But that's the only reason why.

It is admittedly ridiculous. I got made to shave my head once in high school. Why tf care about our hair when academic performance is what matters.

I assume that was a private school? If so, I can see the technicality, even though it's still ridiculous. Barber Hill, however, is a public school. Only something gang related or scantily clad isn't allowed.

Idk if this is defending the decision

But this appears to have been a technicality. If I'm understanding correctly, CROWN Act does not cover issues of hair LENGTH, which is apparently the issue here.

While it's true you can't wear locks with short hair, thems the rules. Judge even encouraged them to change the legislation language to cover the length of hair.

So there's that.

Yeah it's defending the ruling but I get what you're saying. But because these hair styles require long hair they shouldn't have to explicitly insert language pertaining to hair length. Of course this ruling basically means that they do have to now but this ruling is really just splitting hairs.

It's definitely a bullshit loophole, especially with the judge stating that part should be covered.

...And here's the kicker, the school (and district) does have a part of the policy to allow Native American kids to have long hair.
But all other guys? Nope.

So yeah, it's vile shit all the way around. I'm sad this hasn't been on blasted more on national airwaves, the whole damn district needs to be embarrassed to hell.

Nah, we do it in public schools here too. Some of them are lax on hair but others not so much. Only difference between that and private here is that private school uniforms are basically monkey suits

I don't like to be that guy, but Americans are thankless and take their liberties and lifestyle for granted.

Its entirely normal for schools to force uniform and dress codes on students, commonplace in places like Japan or Korea for students to be restricted from dyeing their hair to other natural colors or wearing certain styles. Ofc some of this has relaxed in recent years.

That's been a joke since before the founding, with the "freedom" to own slaves and the "liberty" to burn witches being a stain on the colonies.

There's been a lot of improvement since then, but Republicans want to undo all that progress.

No, I was separately pointing out that Americans take this stuff for granted.

I believe it is a good thing that we even have any protections in place. Didn't say otherwise.

Its good. Americans just suck at realizing it... which was in response to another thing said in this topic, not the main issue.

That's not even the important part.
It's perfectly understandable to think that universal hair codes might be acceptable. Then you have to consider that different races have different types of hair and how they're affected by particular length standards.

Black people's hair is literally a big hassle if they're forced to cut it in a certain way or certain length, and I honestly think many white people in this country don't understand that.

Black people's hair becomes unruly when it's at medium length. Hence the need for locks. But too short, and you can't gather in to lock. Having to braid a black person's natural hair, then unbraid it, cut it, shave it, remoisturize it, then re-braid that person's hair is a fucking annoying-ass time-consuming ordeal.

Remember, how black people often get criticized for having NAPPY hair? Now imagine having to spend hours fixing your 'nappy' hair without having to braid it? It's like trying to fix a cowlick that's 10x firmer. Also, shaving a black person's hair potentially hurts them too. It literally causes bleeding damage to them. Black people get ingrown hairs IN THEIR SCALP. So they literally need to go to a barber who specializes in black hair.
