Why cant they port all the paper Mario games to switch? Why do their games rarely go on sale?

This.

And has been available to download/play since the Wii era. TTYD not so much.

Yes it's on switch, but it is old and crusty looking, like a thousand year old flip-book. Its dark and washed out

Regardless, it's still playable on Switch, which TTYD is not. And, likely, Gamecube emulation wouldn't run very well on Switch. Thus, a remake for TTYD was more necessary than 64 was.

i dont know if you can undo 20 years of mass hypnosis, i think more people would have been mad if the original was remade

Thousand Year Door is better than the original in every significant way (level design, writing, combat) and the hipsters who hate it now are at least as annoying as the people who kept demanding a remaster.

I adore TTYD, but I certainly wouldn't say its level design is better than the original. Its propensity for backtracking is well documented.

it kind makes sense to remaster the worse game before the better game, like remaking persona 3 before 4, so theres an argument for the original even if youre a ttyd brainlet, a kid that had a gamecube cause it was cheaper than ps2 and didnt get to play good rpgs

All of this. Technical limitations can be a valid defense for something at the time it released, but it's abject denial of reality to say that TTYD wasn't a 100% improvement of the original in every way. That's not a bad thing, that's how sequels just work generally if the developers are learning anything.

You're clearly trolling instead of making a real argument, do you really think anyone who remembers both systems is going to believe a claim that N64 had better RPGs?

TTYD is a great game and the complaints are overhyped. You are never guaranteed remakes, so I'm glad that I don't have to wait for the OG to be remade before TTYD can be. Don't get me wrong; the og getting remade would be cool too, but the TTYD is the most inaccessible Paper Mario game at the moment if you don't go the emulation route. OG is 100% available on the Switch as well and knowing N64 kiddos, they'll whine about any change anyway.

Backtracking is a pacing issue, not level design. The puzzles and other challenges were better.

..maybe (mods: saying absurd things isnt always trolling, its just fun) with the cheap gamecube comment, but I am being genuine about remaking primitive games first so the more modern games dont make them feel obsolete, I think its a smart approach if you have a whole series ripe for remakes

True, it is a pacing issue... But I feel like the peak overworld challenges and puzzles in the first game were more memorable than what TTYD had to offer.

I'd take Chapter 7 level design in the original any day over whatever TTYD offered.

Speak truth.

It is hard being a thrifty cheapskate and a Nintendo gamer. At least their stuff tends to hold it's value... on physical stuff - which doesn't help me with the cost of games now that we're all mostly digital and many of those Switch physical releases are very limited!

I mean, I agree with that and am not super excited for the TTYD remake because there isn't anything that needed to be improved that badly, but I got tired of the unnecessary bashing of it that seems to happen more and more. If they were going to remake a PM my first choice would be Sticker Star since it both needs the most changes and could be improved relatively easily, but people seem to prefer remakes of games that don't need them.

My guess is he is probably counting Zelda games as RPGs - which Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask are not.

While I'm not a huge OoT or MM fanboy, they are great games and I can see why someone counting them as RPGs might say N64 has the greatest RPG because of how influential those games were.

right, i think the best approach would just be throw the isos for 3/4 paper mario games into a collection game and sell as is. But nintendo knows that probably isnt the most lucratice way to do it if i had to guess.
