I liked the Dead or Alive series more.

I remember going through the game getting all 50 scarabs just so I could unlock the NES games (which were hard to play with the pressure sensitive XBox controller).

Even after multiple play through's, I've never once collected all 50 Golden Scarabs

It was cool as fuck, and I think I got it for free or something (Pre-order) with trade-ins.

The first 2, yes. Most people didn't like 3 very much.

NG1/Black/ Sigma is a masterpiece
NG2 is very fun, but very flawed

Sigma 2 is NG2 but less fun and more flaws

NG3 is one of the worst action games in the market

You can play Black and be done with the franchise tbh

Best in the genre IMO. So fluid.

For my entire life the moment anyone ever says Ninja Gaiden my mind automatically goes to the original NES game. Spring of 89. I was a young teenager just finishing up Jr. High. It would take me around 18 months of off and on playing with other NES games to finally complete this game.

I had it pretty much mastered and could go through the entire game up to 6-2 without dying but damn that stage was brutal to me. Finally was able to get over the hump and ended up completing the game.

I will 100% always think of this game when Ninja Gaiden is mentioned. I still remember the chip tune music. I remember every sound, every stage, the first game I remember with actual story cutscenes. This and the Tecmo Bowl animations they had. With both games being Tecmo it made sense. What great memories.

After that hurricane pack came out it became way too hard for me though

Apparently the hurricane pack added a Parry mechanic

I love Parry mechanics in games today. I imagine I woulda lost my mind about it 20 years had it made it to Black.

it only doesn't feel that way because it was rereleased like multiple times. it was even rereleased like a few years after it was made or something, wasn't it?

I assume you mean Flying Swallow. The flying dash in midair? It was pretty much the only way to beat her. It pissed me off that sometimes the game would just arbitrarily decide the move would just bounce off of her without doing damage

Just one more year and it can legally drink!

Unless it lives in a developed country where it's been able to for two years already.

That game pissed me off so many times and yet it was an awesome game.

i remember doing the master ninja tournament because the bottom 10 got a ninja dog t shirt and I almost got in there. ended up getting a beanie iirc but definitely lost it unfortunately.

Cripes I think a friend of mine gave me his copy about 15 years ago because he was done with it and I still haven't gotten around to playing it. I feel hella old now.

What's the difference between the vanilla, Black, and Sigma versions of those games? >_> I hear they're changed a lot

There are a quite a few smaller differences, but a few stuff I remember

Hurricane Pack ( Basically a DLC patch): Adds Parry Mechanic, at least 1 new weapon, mission mode

Black ( considered the definitive version): removes Parry, new enemies and bosses, difficulty higher than Very Hard, called Master Ninja mode, broken abilities like Flying swallow are nerfed, and enemies added to counter it directly. Game in general is harder, bigger mission mode. Arcade version of NG. Doppelganger boss.

Every difficulty changes treasure contents and enemy type and #. A room where you fight 60 tier 1 enemies on Normal will be 80 tier 2 enemies in Hard, and 120 Tier 3 enemies on Master Ninja

Sigma ( PS3 version): Best looking version except water. Gameplay is streamlined to remove most puzzles. Water surface combat, redesigned rooms, more weapons, Rachel now has 3 chapters to herself extending game length. Item hotbar, so you can heal at anytime. The game is a acceptable version, but is considered easier

The NES games are also cool.

NG2 has the original and Sigma versions

NG2 is bloody and violent game, arguably more fun than Black 1, but is a very flawed and unpolished game with a ton of dumb bosses and unfair enemies.

Sigma 2 is carries all the issues of NG2 and makes them worse by having less enemies fighting at once ( NG2 6 vs Sigma2 3). Enemies often gain random bouts of super armor and are capable of OHKOs on higher difficulties.

The game also was censored in the worst way... Enemies who lost limbs would instead pour purple mist into the air instead of blood, and I think limbs disappear entirely. The blood content to lesser than most T games. Personally it fucks with game feel in one of the worst ways, and it's why I don't gaf about ' censorship' today cuz you guys have it easy.

As far as NG3 there's absolutely nothing NG3 does that's better than the others, even the upgraded Razors Edge, except that you can play as the other DoA characters. This game is the DMC2 of actions games period

What versions does the remastered collection have? Sigma or Black?

I have no real idea, I haven't heard anything about it. I keep forgetting it exists

It seems like it's the Sigma versions for the first 2 games and Razor's Edge for 3. They removed the titty bouncing with the controllers sadly. They also put in some features from the Sigma Plus versions from Vita which is neat too. Maybe I'll pick these up on Steam

Also, they were considering adding Ninja Gaiden Black but they lost some data on the source files or something and couldnt make it work, so they dropped it
