There is a valid angle. I heard that when it came out, The Simpsons was kind of controversial or edgy and caused a bit of a moral panic because of how it portrayed a family with characters that weren't considered not-so-great people. South Park didn't have that same impact because it was on cable and was intended only for adults.
There hasn't really been a mainstream, animated show that had any real moral controversy since to my knowledge.

It was and wasnt.
at first people protested against it, parents groups were against it and even some channels I think were against airing the Butterfinger ads and such.

it was never bad like shows from the last 25 years, but it was considered kinda controversial the first couple season for the time.

its nothing today, but back then there wasnt really adult type animation really mainstream
