walmart or other big retailer? Iirc they tell the AP not to talk about that. And walmart and stuff does not want to let that information really be known. Isn't it if it's a low amount of total cost most times they just tell you not to shop at any of their stores....etc...?

It absolutely depends on the employees working. The policy of many major retailers is to not do a damn thing.

But employees can always call police or they might have LP staff or hired security that are paid to deter shoplifters.

In some populated areas though police rarely even show up for calls about shoplifting so the worst thing some stores might do is tell you not to come back

At my store the policy is to not confront shoplifters, but I still lose my fucking mind and cuss them out if they are disrespectful in any way or if they just arent smooth about it
