Jesus, imagine launching a game that has server issues even when only a few thousand people are playing. I understand issues for huge successes like WoW or Helldivers 2, but it's not like Suicide Squad ever had a massive influx of players.

Those kinds of issues should be tested for and solved before launch.

Any game that has to connect to the internet will always experience server issues, it's just the nature of it because there are a bajillion things that can go wrong. The main cause for server issue for games like Helldivers 2 and Last Epoch was that they didn't have enough server space to fit their ever growing playerbase. Once they increased their server space, a lot of the problem got solved. That's the most baffling thing about Suicide Squad, they can't figure out the main cause for their server issue because it absolutely isn't their massive playerbase lol. It just really sounds like they don't know enough about online infrastructure because this is their first time dipping their foot into this unknown territory.

I'll be the bigger person as someone who actually played it because I was gifted free from my friend. The reason it's a positive review on steam is because the game is exactly as its advertised, a looter shooter there's no bait and switch and what not. If you like looter shooters, this game delivers on it. As someone who played it, it actually plays really well and runs at a smooth FPS and the traversal is one of the best in its genre, imo. Also the battle pass (which hasn't came out yet) won't expire and the store is all cosmetics. Now for why the playerbase is so small at the moment is because the end game content is boring. The biggest weakness about this game is its lack of mission variety's, or in this case there's only like 3 different type of incursions missions (that give you exclusive weapons you can't get anywhere else) and replaying them on harder difficulties only makes the enemies bigger damage sponges and harder hitters as oppose to making them harder in other ways like reflexes or positioning (which is something warframe and destiny 2 does better). For why the refund is happening because the game has been having server issues since day 1. It's basically the hydra effect when it comes to server issues, they fix one issue and three more takes it place. It's gotten to the point where finishing incursion missions and loading back to the main map would put you in an eternal loading screen and restarting the game would get rid of all the loot you earned in that mission. They just announced the new season won't happen until the end of March and that they won't be doing any more weekly patches regarding server issues because they're trying to get the new season up and working. These server issues are game breaking and most of the problem would be solved if they released this game with an offline mode, which they announce won't happen for awhile. So it's not a buggy mess like Cyberpunk2077, but the servers being broken the way they are it might as well count as a buggy mess.
lmao

GaaS is only successful if the game it's based on is successful.

It's like trying to make a cake but forgetting to include the ingredients so you have a bunch of icing on a plate.
Yeah that's the unfortunate part of it. Some games would be amazing if not for the GaaS aspects dragging them down. Like the Avengers game had a great storyline. But the battle passes and gameplay loop sucked.

Similar things with earlier failed games, like Anthem. Flying around in that game was fun as hell... If only they had made it a full fledged single player adventure, instead of an empty, always online game with microtransactions and a terrible endgame loop.

You have to be a special kind of failure to have your game be panned to the point of refunds just for being a bad game. That's Lord of the Rings Gollum level embarrassment.

maybe the issue is they don't have enough players? steamdb says they have around a 400 player count for the last 24 hours. hilarious that it's dropped that low already

Could also be because WB is shit. Mortal Kombat 1 has also had many issues since launch and gone offline a number of times making the game essentially unplayable because all of the content requires you to be online.

So their priority is getting the battle pass out the door instead of fixing the servers?

This team just keeps changing refund policies. First they released Arkham Knight on pc in a near unplayable state only for Valve to make a refund policy. Now Suicide Squad is so bad that Sony has to iasue refunds.
What's next are they going to get Nintendo to release their games on PC.
