I don't know since I've never played one. But if it's like every other game I play then I finish all the sidequests first.

usually just stick to the main story and some stories but I wanted to platinum 8.

I tend to do almost everything. But I skip stuff like mahjong and other mini games similar to that and any sub stories tied to them.

I mainly do the main story and all of the substories, as well as the big minigames for that title. Like Dodonko Island and the Sujimon League for Infinite Wealth. I don't bother going for the platinum, as that gets a bit too tedious for my liking.
