I was sitting in my car as well.

I got out right away and asked the lady to roll down her window. Just told her that she opened her door into mine as she was getting in.

As I checked for any marks, her daughter just drove off.

Luckily there wasn't any marks but if there were, I forgot to note down her registration number.

What's the proper way to handle this next time it happens?

If there's no damage, which unless they're actively trying there probably isn't any, just go on about your day.
