Japanese curry has always felt like "weeb bait" to me. It's not bad, but for how evangelized it is in anime/games one would think that there would be more emphasis on regional identity (such as how mayo is a thing on sushi in northern Japan) like there is for basically every other thing in Japan.

There are regional differences. Western Japan (from Osaka westward) usually has beef as their base meat, and Eastern Japan usually has pork as their base meat. There's also the variation curry udon, which started in Tokyo and has spread throughout the country. In Hokkaido a version called "soup curry" with a thinner, broth-like curry base and large chunks of vegetables and meat is popular. Places like Yokohama that are famous for having good curry sell it precooked in pouches as souvenirs. You can also find variations in any area that use local specialty ingredients.

Calling it "weeb bait" or whatever is silly. If it seems like it's being "evangelized" that's just because it's super popular. Japanese people love curry, along with ramen it's a staple food that pretty much everyone likes and never gets tired of, like pizza or burgers in the US.

Oh and my favorite is Thai but Indian and Japanese are great too.

True. I live in Japan too, and feel this way.

Japanese food is good, but. You cant go into it with the mindset of other food. The strength of Japanese food comes in the quality of ingredients, the slight variations it can be made (cause lets face it, there is very little variety in major Japanese dishes, so unique takes on them are a strong point), and the presentation are what matter most. It is hard to get i to it, but it does make sense the longer you live here, and you grow an appreciation for it. Even if American food TASTES better, it actually starts to FEEL worse.

Thats my experience from being immersed into it anyway.

I dont hate Japanese curry, i just think it doesnt carry the strength of other Japanese food. It feels sloppy and careless, which is very. Unlike most Japanese food.

That's why you should eat food with utensils.

You haven't really lived until you had Indian Curry.

Personally, Japanese curry is really good but it's like the one kind. Where is there's so many different Indian curries

there's more curry than Japanese/Thai/Indian.

I really can't choose whether or not I like Thai or Indian curry better

but it's not curry!

I like them all for different reasons. It's still curry. just like how American pizza is still pizza despite being totally different from the pizza you get in Italy. Also I got I'm trying out a different brand of underwear. it has a pocket and it's super comfy.
