Like most things, there would be a lot of idiots on Twitter and Medium mad about it, but it'd be rated like 99/100 by viewers and rolling in money.

The Boondocks comic got a lot of heat and censorship. There is and was always outrage over its messaging and humor.

It would quite ironically be the opening scene of the very first episode of The Boondocks, but in real life and without a hint of self-awareness.

It's aged phenomenally well honestly so people can always still watch it. Woke scolds can't say it's racist because 90% of the cast is black people who made it to point out & satirize issues with the black community. & Regressives can't say it's woke or aimed toward children because it's clearly adult oriented & a lot of the humor shows off issues with black people, & we know they love talking about how bad anyone darker than peach shade is.

I'd have thought a show with a mainly African American cast would be well received, you know because of diversity.

It would be well loved my the left. But they are not the ones who whine when something isn't made for them. Not in 2024 anyway.

Satire is dead now these days yeah. Helldivers discourse & shit like the Babylon bee show that even if the satire is good, it goes right over people's heads

There's a lot more racists and people who don't understand satire -- and humor in general -- that have access to the internet these days, so it probably won't do as well.

Which is ironic, because it's somehow extremely topical and relevant to this day.

True. And no Charlie Murphy either. His banter with Samuel L Jackson were some of my favorite moments in the show

The only reason I know this show is cos I was bored and my fav black guy ace attorney video maker editor the storyteller shifted focus to boondocks and I listened to one of his video thoughts mainly since I like his voice and it seems interesting with how it commentates on black person behaviour and how one character in the show was like a black nerd explaining himself I dont remember clearly but my Therapist man watched it and said I could like it. Hmmmm.

It would get the same amount of hate, but it would be way more visible.

Seriously, Boondocks had nuclear levels of hatred even back then, but it was easy to miss if you just didn't look for it. Nowadays it would be in your face.

With how much people love to farm outrage I can't imagine how angry the first episode alone would make people just for the line "Jesus was black, Ronald Regan was the devil, and the government is lying about 9/11", it would probably be canceled right after that episode and Cartoon Network would be facing a lawsuit of some kind. I still remember the episode Ed and Rummy's dumbasses get into a shootout with some people at a convenience store they tried to rob and how some people in real life completely took the wrong message from their antics that episode.

Never in my life have I seen a final episode destroy my image if it's creators like the last episode of the Boondocks. Series ends with Riley being chased by a bunch of angry special Olympians? Aaron stepping out was fatal.

I didn't watch that season as soon as I heard he wasn't spearheading it, bro is the heart and soul of the series without him there they either don't understand the characters cores or they simply let their own bias for or against them shine through, like Tom, his whole thing is that he's boring as hell yet has a loving family, without aaron around they turn Tom into that guy nobody likes whose wife is bored of him and wants to cheat on him and his daughter apathetic towards him.

Aaron McGruder would've pulled a Jon Stewart with a "both sides" take, but have a strong leaning towards leftism/liberal slant. I can definately see him making an episode making fun of the BLM movement for instance, but definately have some jabs at the Qanon/Red Pill group.

He was always a both sides suck person. That was kind of the point of the Obama episode. He does hate conservatives more but he thinks both are the problem.

Yeah I worded it bad, but that was what I was trying to get at that he's a very pessismist type of person and his comics are proof of that...so he will always pull a "both sides" schtick (as you said because he thinks both sides just suck in general), but just like Jon Stewart he will have a more left leaning slant than a right one. I do think he would probably get hate at first if the new Boondocks show was released today, but after awhile it would've subsided overtime.

No need to do the revival when reality mimics it. Granted it did even back then, it just wasn't quite as apparent for me.

This topic reminds of the time I showed a clip of The Boondocks in a college class in 2015 and a white girl said the show made her uncomfortable (one clip was when the ghost of Stinkmener possessed Tom, but I dont remember the other clip I showed).
Conservatives would want to be outraged, but I dont think much would happen honestly. Itd a discussion for a night or two on Fox News, but unless McGrudger went out his way for a long and consistent crusade against the right at every one of their points, the right would lose interest. For every political episode, there was a pop culture one that the right would only pursue if they had an extreme hate rod going and nothing else to go on about at that exact moment.

But the real reasons the current conservatives would be upset if how often they hear a certain word spoken in that show that they themselves cannot publicly walk away from if they were ever caught saying it.

If anything, The Boondocks went hard and theres some complaints that more recent black cultural media hasnt gone hard like The Boondocks has.

I could see some of the more radical left being upset, but McGrudger was pretty nuanced with the show and wasnt actually hateful when making some jokes, and the people on the left whod be mad would be people just wanting to be mad about things. Im
What Im saying is, someone on there left looking to be mad might take issue with something like Booty Warrior and Tyler Perry parody characters as homophobic or Stinkemener as ableism, but the story isnt especially hateful towards those characters. Like Booty Warrior is a bad person, but his purpose is just to be something men fear.
