I've done this style of poll contest once before, back in either Gen VII or Gen VIII, so why not try it again now? The rules are simple: each day, I'm going to post a poll for a given Pokemon typing, with each generation's roster of new Pokemon filling in that typing. You just need to look at what each generation had to offer, and select which generation you think brought the best new roster (for any reason; you could say that a single Pokemon was so good that it overwhelms everything else the generation spawned, or you could select a generation that may be more well-rounded that the one that created your personal favorite). At the end of the day, one generation will be crowned a champion (with potential tiebreakers if need be), and that generation will advance to a second round, where the eighteen winners, and fourteen strongest runner-ups will be sorted into a 32-entrant tournament to crown which generation produced the best overall roster of a single typing.

Yesterday's one-on-one contest saw a relatively strong showing from both entrants, but Gen V took a slight lead, and every time Gen III tried to cut into that lead, Gen V fought back and maintained a close, but safe final score to secure it's place in the tournament.

For today's contest, we have our last wild card to decide as the 32-seed just barely made the cut with two generations of Ghosts vying to make the top tier. Gen IV has some big names and evolutions holding its ranks, while Gen IX goes for quantity with a large number of new Pokemon among its number.

Fire: Gen I (30 Votes, 47.62%)
Bug: Gen V (30 Votes, 44.12%)
Dragon: Gen III (30 Votes, 41.67%)
Poison: Gen I (29 Votes, 50.88%)
Grass: Gen III (28 Votes, 45.90%)
Psychic: Gen III (25 Votes, 45.45%)
Fairy: Gen VII (24 Votes, 39.34%)
Electric: Gen I (24 Votes, 37.50%)
Ice: Gen IV (24 Votes, 36.92%)
Flying: Gen I (21 Votes, 35.00%)
Water: Gen I (21 Votes, 34.43%)
Ground: Gen I (20 Votes, 33.33%)
Dark: Gen II (18 Votes, 26.87%)
Normal: Gen I (17 Votes, 28.81%)
Steel: Gen III (15 Votes, 27.27%)
Rock: Gen I (14, 23.33%)
Fighting: Gen IV (14 Votes, 21.88%)

Ceruledge and Annihilape are two of my favorite Pokemon from Gen IX, full stop. Them being Ghost-types is a cherry on top. Plus, you have Flutter Mane and Gimmighoul/Gholdengo as major comeptitive threats, Pecharunt as the figurehead of a fun DLC, and even Poltchageist/Sinistcha are better variants than the original inspirations.

Gen IV only really has Mismagius, IMO. Maybe Rotom and Frolass and MAYBE Spiritomb (which is still annoyingly rare). Giratina is actively bad though, so that docks points.

IX's got both the quantity and the quality here. Skeledirge, Ceruledge, Annihilape, Fluttershy, Flutter Mane, and Gholdengo are all really good, and I like the Greavard line and Pecharunt too

It's tempting to linger in this moment, while every possibility still exists. But unless collapsed by an observer, they will never be more than possibilities.

This one's kind of a toss up for me, but I think I give IX the edge. Maybe.

Drifloon: Cool lore, adorable design
Drifblim: It's aight
Mismagius: Ok but it could've been better
Spiritomb: Scary rock
Dusknoir: what dis
Froslass: Cool enough take on yukionna
Rotom: Cool concept but the base form feels slightly outdated now
Giratina: Too chunky for an apocalyptic interdimensional terror
Skeledirge: Didn't love it at first but hey a quadrupedal final evo of a Fire starter is at least pretty interesting
Ceruledge: Really cool and edgy
Bramblin: hwat
Brambleghast: ???
Greavard: A bit awkward looking, who put their candle on this doggo
Houndstone: Huh...ok
Annihilape: Bad ass alternative take on Primeape
Flutter Mane: What if Misdreavus was good. I don't think its design is different enough compared to Misdreavus but it's not worse.
Gimmighoul: Annoying fuckers to collect
Gholdengo: Golden surfer ghost?? It's great competitively but annoying to fight.
Poltchageist: Good convergent take on Polteageist
Sinistcha: Same as above, and their signature move is cool
Pecharunt: Haven't played the DLC but apparently it's a parasitic motherfocker
