I still have a collection of about 120-130, almost half of all issues. I'm sure someone here can beat that.

Was by far my favorite magazine in high school.

Use to own the first 184 complete, sold them all except for 1 with Resident Evil Remake coverage inside. Not sure why my dumbass didn't keep all the RE issues though!

EGM was fantastic for a long time. There was a period in the 2003'ish(?) era were they were re-reviewibg and dissing some great games the previously reviewed real well -- think this included lowering of opinions on Banjo-Kazooie and Perfect Dark -- and I found that indicative of their lowering of quality in recent times at that time, so I dropped them...but for a long time, they were the best game magazine.

Subscribed for years but got rid of most of them years ago. I think I still have a few issues I kept like #100 and one with some special FFX cover.

EGM > Tips & Tricks > Game Informer for magazines covering all consoles (shout-outs to Nintendo Power)

Things I remember about EGM:

Their preview for Perfect Dark might be the magazine article I most re-read.

War Gods was a real bad game, but goddamn they had a hot woman as Vallah in a two-page poster for it from when they covered the game.

Tekken 3 getting the first 10/10 in years with them felt like a big moment in the industry. Maybe that was just a kid's perspective though.

Their April Fools-pranks landed hard sometimes. Sheng Long in Street Fighter, All Bonds in Goldeneye, Sonic in Melee...some of this speaks to how gullible we were before the internet was prepared enough for such fact-checking, but also some of that spoke to how much EGM was trusted.

They had a reviewer named Shoe, and I thought they had another reviewer who was referred to as a ninja but it's hard to remember.

ONCE UPON A TIME one of my emails to them was included in the letters to the editor. I have no idea what I said to them anymore but I think it was a positive letter.

Oh yes - Sonic & Tails in Melee got me 1000%. To be fair, I had just subscribed and it was my 2nd or 3rd issue, and the 'April' issue came out in early March. They set such a perfect 'goal' though - 20 KOs in Cruel Melee was the right amount to get me to grind it endlessly with Jigglypuff

That was Sushi X!

I probably own a few dozen EGMs from the late 90s to early 2000s. It and Nintendo Power were the only game mags I read and kept up with, and the contrast between them was stark. NP was very safe and steralized, while EGM was much more risque with its opinions, language, and advertisements. I remember reading "shit" in one of their issues for the first time and wondering if they had maybe gone too far, but I loved them for pushing the envelope like that. Their editors were also known to readers and had unique personalities, something that seemed to be completely missing from NP.

Even back then, I could tell that NP was carefully scrubbed by Nintendo, while EGM seemed like a group of young guys living the dream in an office where they played games all day, and it was the much cooler product because of it. Pretty sure I saw EGM as a dream job back in the 90s.

This issue was the first time I saw Yoshi's Island anything, and they put it as their #7 game. Surprised me at that time.

Their top one hundred games of all time, which came two months before the greatest year of gaming began. Neat throwback.

This reminds me of reading some of those letters to the editor and seeing people use this completely new concept called "e-mail" to send letters to them. I had no idea how to get access to this and kinda assumed I never would.

I probably have that many gameinfomers as that was my Mag from middle school through college....and when I was really young? Game Players. Good old knockoff Nintendo Power.

Game Fan was my favorite because everything was so over the top (Even during a time when all of them were) but I only ever had a few issues.

EGM though? Maybe around 2

Had a bunch of Game Informers that I never read from GameStop membership but I think I threw them all out. I have the final issue of Nintendo Power sealed but that's about it for my magazine collection

I know I had at least one issue each of GamePro, Game Informer and EGM. IIRC EGM was my second favorite of the three with the third being really bad but I forget which was which. Now that I think about it, I might have just bought each of their issues on FF7 and judged them entirely based on that, because I know I didn't read all that much of any of them. I was more into InQuest which was primarily about MtG and had stuff on video games here and there. I remember their article on EverQuest blew my mind and got me into that.

I have a storage tote full of them that I'd have to pull out to check. The first issue I had was the Pokemon Gold/Silver one with Ho-Oh on the cover, though I didn't actually get to subscribe until much later down the road (before then it was just a crapshoot if my parents would buy me one at the store when I saw them). It was also the only gaming magazine I ever read, not counting the Game Informers that GameStop would give to you with a membership, but I enjoyed them so much that I doubt I missed much by not getting any of the others.

Game Fan was definitely my favorite, because you could tell the writers were all huge nerds

PSM (100% independent magazine) sometimes had really cool original art for videogames done by professional western comics artists like Joe Mad, Travis Charest, and others

Nintendo Power was good especially early on, but it definitely got too safe as the years went by. As soon as they stopped including comics it was time to go

EGM was more reliable/consistent than Gamefan, which set it apart.

Gamepro felt a little sloppy/unprofessional in my opinion

Did you ever read their magazines when they tried to reboot the mag in the early 2010's?
It was awesome and looked incredible but only lasted maybe 10 issues tops. Which was a shame.
