started the backlog project on 4/8/21 so basically 3 years. started out with 143 games in the library although several of those were already beaten and ive got 278 now. ive beaten most, completed all i wanted to in things like fighting games, dropped some either due to skill issue or not liking it, sadly dropped one due to a softlock, and some im not coutning because i only have them because they were marked 100% off (shoutouts to the Free Games board) and i never had any intention of playing them. i doubt i finish the rest up this year because some of them are long rpgs plus im heading back into ff14 soonish to get ready for Dawntrail.

anyway the Final 10 are (in alphabetical order)

Black Desert
this one was available for free and ive always been kinda interested in it. dont know much about it other than its a korean mmorpg and it has a good character creator. planning on saving this one for last because in the event i like it and want to play it wont interfere with the rest of the backlog

Fortune Summoners: Secret of the Elemental Stone
one of the Carpe Fulgor games. i have 2.3 hours on record and last played 7/23/12 but yeah dont remember much of it. i dont think i liked what i played though. vaguely remember not liking the way it controlled or something. gonna give it another shot and see how it goes

Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition
i remember being intrigued by this back in the early 2000s but i never got it. i know its a DnD type situation and theres some thac0 but not much else.

Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition
another DnD type situation but this one i actually know a little about! i bought the original version of this many a year ago and ive still got it. neat little cloth map and binder type instruction manual and all. never played it much though. never really had a gaming pc so i couldnt really run it when i got it and had issues with a later computer too. compatibility issues i think. i actually intended to play this earlier but spent like 2 hours making a character, wasnt satisfied, failed in trying to find some good build guides, and kinda fell out of wanting to play it

Persona 4: Golden
hey alright. played the original when it released, watched the animes, played some spinoffs, but never played golden since it was vita-locked. looking forward to seeing best girl Marie in her debut game

Planescape Torment: Enhanced Edition
oh hey a 3rd DnD type situation. i got the original version on GoG, played it for a bit, was getting wrecked, looked things up, found i had probably put stat points in all the wrong places, decided to start over sometime, and never did. i also remember installing a bunch of mods which hopefully wont be necessary here. ive heard many a good thing about this so hopefully it doesnt disappoint

Recettear: An Item Shop's Tale
capitalism, ho! this was the first game i bought on steam and i played it for all of 3 hours. i think i got past the first deadline and was doing terrible in the 2nd one and then stopped playing. maybe itll go better when i start back up :/
(also the other carpe fulgor game Chantelise has already been beaten. i like that one)

System Shock 2
i only bought this because it was cheap and i heard good things and i know of SHODAN. im not even sure i know what kinda game it is much less if its the kinda thing i like. ill give it a shot though and see

Undertale
The Best Game Ever Made as voted for by prestigious website gamefaqs dot gamespot dot fandom dot com with many incredible characters such as Sans Undertale, that other skeleton, some fish lady a streamer i watch cosplayed as that one time, and like a goat woman?? and probably more! ive somehow managed to not play this and also to avoid most spoilers. i vaguely know things and i watched a little bit of the beginning in an LP and i know about the 3 different endings but uh not much else. should be a fun time

Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines
another game i bought based on hearing good things. i dont really know anything about it either. i think its an rpg and there may perhaps be a vampire in it?? i think i remember hearing about how it was stupidly hard to get running but im assuming that was disc version compatibility issues

and hey thats it! well for now. never know when a good humble bundle will drop and something goes for way cheap in a steam sale. plus i always be buying #fitegames

so uh i guess if anyone has any protips for any of those games lemme know. i dont think ill make this a playthrough topic since im probably heading to ff14 around the start of june so not much backlogging time left for now.

I've played everything but Black Desert and Fortune Summoners.

Undertale is by far the shortest of these games, followed by SS2. Recettear's length is debatable, though, because of how it functions. P4G is easily the longest, it's probably as long as the next three combined. VtM:B is fun, but the last quarter of the game is famously not finished, so some builds become very hard to use by the end of the game. I cannot imagine you'll get much out of IWD unless you absolutely love Baldur's Gate 1 and will do anything for more of its combat, because it's just a series of dungeons with a very basic plot to connect them together. NWN's entire gimmick is that it lets you create your own modules so other people can play them, and to have multiplayer... which was amazing in like 2002, but I don't know how much you'll get from the default campaign in the modern era.

Undertale > SS2 > P4G > PS:T > VtMB > Recettear > NWN

ah heck didnt know that about vtm. getting xenogeard is unfortunate. ill look a build up for that

havent played any baldurs gate so yeah not sure how thatll go.

ive been tempted to start up p4g because im afraid the longer i put it off the less likely i am to play it what with rumors of p6 and a p4 remake. but yeah doubt i could finish it by june even with skipping all the old story bits. probably best to wait till after dawntrail before i handle it

also is there a non spoilery way on how to get the true ending in undertale? i know a requirement but i think you have to get the normal ending first or something along those lines?

If it helps, the rumors of a P4 Remake say they haven't started working on it yet, so it'd probably be a 2030s thing.

I can speak highly of VtM, and also of the various wesp patches if you want to mod it a little to make some stuff less ballbusty (the sewers...) or add a couple of extra missions.

Just a heads up that, while most of the game can be done with bare minimum combat, it will kneecap you in the final act if you dont have a major investment in at least one combat discipline by the endgame.

Just play the game normally, as you see fit. Even if you get the wrong ending the first time, the game is short enough that replaying up to the ending again to get the true one won't matter.

I kinda disagree with that because I played it once "normally" and didn't like it nearly enough to play a second time, and the ending I got was pretty disappointing neutral pacifist, for those curious

That said I don't know the game well enough to list the reqs for the different endings.

you have to get that ending first. you have to "replay" it to get the true ending. you just have to go do alphys's date, which is locked until you've beaten the game

Oh for real? I assumed I had just missed it because I never backtracked to talk to anyone.

Kinda lame to lock that behind a second playthrough but glad I got the intended experience I guess

you have to backtrack like 5 minutes after it drops you off and you get a phone call telling you exactly what to do

Congrats

my owned backlog is getting pretty small too; pretty happy about it. 4 games on Xbox, 5 on switch.

Granted, I am about to start FF14 so

and my to buy wish list is solid 10 games deep

for some reason i was thinking it was already in the works but ive probably confused that with some other persona rumors. not wanting to burn out on persona before 6 might be more of an issue but since itll probably be like 3r and cost 70$ and have a season pass ill be waiting for awhile.
