also i realized this whole time i was picturing Mona from WarioWare and when Belle got onscreen again my first thought was 'what the fuck why is she so hot'

skimmed through the early parts as a refresher and now i'm back at where i left off:

the random beach booty battles

unironically love girls who constantly try to fuck you over

ummmmmmm I don't remember a kiss occurring, Belle & Layle is the closest to romance and they both play independent hard-to-get types. I guess Layle does kiss somebody's hand but it's a more formal event.... maybe by kiss you mean Keiss? The Selkie partner Layle works with? They're like mercenary buddies together.

Crystal Idols I wouldn't describe like Chaos Emeralds, they I guess can power-up the abilities of Crystal Bearers but that's more of a bi-product of their true purpose which I imagine you weren't quite at yet. I can tho explain that Crystals themselves are an energy source, like in the opening scene the Yuke comes in and uses the Crystal Idol to absorb the airship (The Alexis)'s crystals that were used to power it, so Layle as an emergency had to use his gravity powers to steer the ship in an emergence. Since his powers come from being a Crystal Bearer, he's essentially replacing the function that the crystals were providing before being absorbed. Plot ahead will actually explain where these crystals come from in the first place though which is important.

Also, unbeknownst to the Yuke, Layle swiped the Crystal Idol after they absorbed the crystals with it.

Belle was on that airship too, she was taking pictures and the High Commander Jegran doesn't like what she was taking pictures of so he's after her. After the crash Keiss talks with Jegran about the job they just did, and inquires about moving up. Reaching the city, Layle encounters a ferret that jumps him and steals the Crystal Idol he took. He chases the ferret and takes the Idol back, running into Althea, the ferret's owner. They chat a bit, talk about Layle being a Crystal Bearer and it's against the law to use his powers in the city, as suddenly Belle comes rushing in chased by some guards. She hides behind Layle, he uses his powers to chuck the guards, so they chance him as Layle & Belle run out the window and snag a Chocobo ride. (Belle tries to ditch him but Layle uses his powers to bring the cart back. Minigame: Belle drives while Layle defends against their tail)

During the chase Belle gets whacked unconscious and they drive off a cliff. They continue together through some ruins in a tunnel underneath. Layle finds some mysterious text about the 4 tribes and their Tribal Crystals that formed the Principal of the world. The text fades has he tries to read the 4th tribe (the Yuke), and the ruins become unstable. Also while he's doing this Belle finds a chest (see next paragraph). They continue out the tunnel meeting the Yuke at the end where there is a shining light. Layle goes after him but the Crystal Idol activates and the absorbed crystals from inside come out and form a giant crystal shard at the shining light. Layle asks what they're after and the Yuke responds it's for The Resurrection. Yuke gets away, ruins shake up, Layle leaves with Belle and a now empty (greyed out) Crystal Idol

Layle & Belle emerge from the Lett Highlands as we see Belle privately take out a Crystal Idol she found in the ruin chests. The two split and we see a hooded figure tailing them.

Layle gets a letter from his pal Cid who owns a workshop in Bridge Town, telling Layle to swing by to check out a new prototype. Arriving there we see him working on a steam engine, an alternative energy source to crystals. Layle asks if he knows anything about the Crystal Idol, Cid tells him the name and explains it as a royal treasure and that's all. Layle tells him what happened on the Alexis, asks Cid what he knows, realizes the Lilty are hiding details (the crystals were absorbed). Layle understands there's 2 more Crystal Idols & heads out (ambushed by Lilty guards that he quickly beats). As Layle goes though we see Althea hiding in the back. Cid asks what she thinks and asks if he can be trusted - Cid says yes, but he does attract danger.

Another letter! Keiss got a lead on a new job at the vineyard! There Layle stumbles into Keiss talking with Jegran - Keiss misplaced the Alexis contract so they can't get paid, but their new job is to go after the Yuke who's apparently inside. Keiss asks again about promotions, Jegran mentions about Belle taking pictures, Keiss acts coy.

Layle & Keiss go inside and find the Yuke, chase it into the forest as they run into weird landform distortions. The Yuke tries to reason with Layle, explaining about distortions in the Crystal Principal, throwing a red crystal shard to him. Layle doesn't get it, so the Yuke reveals their Crystal Bearer power of summoning by calling forth Bahamut. Layle defeats it which causes a rift he takes with Keiss - arriving in Limbo. The Yuke is here, reciting the text Layle found in the ruins earler - completing the phrase of the 4 tribes: "Lilty, Clavat, Selkie, and we the Yuke", explaining the Yukes are trapped between existence & oblivion since losing their Tribal Crystal. The Yuke goes away, the gang chases, when the Yuke comes to a stop they ask Layle to throw him, creating another rift as everybody pops out again in the Selkie Guild. Unfortunately Keiss fell into a river so Layle goes after him leaving the Yuke behind.

Arriving at the Selkie Guild the two decide to talk to the leader Vaigali, but state Keiss (a Selkie working for the Lilty kingdom) should stay back. Layle tosses Keiss his Crystal Idol to return to the Lilty, and the red crystal shard from Amidatelion and asks to have it checked out while Layle goes to Vaigali.

Layle asks Vaigali (an information broker) for tips on the Yuke, says he'll keep his eye out in return for Layle powering his ship because the Kingdom is confiscating crystal shards that power it, Layle declines but tells him Cid is working on an alternative steam engine. Tentatively agreeing, Vaigali says Layle can take a trip back to the capital on his train.

On the way there Layle bumps into Belle again with her Selkie friends. He also gets another letter from Keiss having returned the Crystal Idol. He says it was taking from the ruins from earlier, apparently there was a 2nd that was also stolen (Layle remembers Belle saying "heyyyy, this chest is emptyyyy!).

Layle gets to the beach where Belle & her friends are playing, Belle talks about gathering intel, she keeps her secrets close to her, the girls get changed for the beach, and that hooded figure from the ruins is watching them again. Layle checks the changing room to see if the idol's in her purse but instead stops the hooded figure doing the same. Then Layle realizes it must be on her person, cut to the girls getting kicked off the beach by another gang of Selkie girls and they have a beach butt battle to settle the turf. Layle helps and covertly pulls something out of Belle's bikini thinking it's the Idol only to find a roll of film instead.

Belle bumps into him after the win, says she noticed he helped her and that was pretty cool. Layle says he's after the Crystal Idol she took. A friend says she saw Layle peeping, Belle smacks him, Layle hands her the roll of film he doesn't need and clarifies he wants the Idol but Belle gets mad realizing he swiped the film from her bikini until all of a sudden the changing rooms burst in flames and Layle puts them out. Belle continues to play dumb about the Idol and runs off.

Belle ratted him out for cover, he sneaks out (bumping into her once more), Layle meets up with Keiss in the library for more info - he's promoted to Colonel Keiss thanks to the Crystal Idol! No other new info, Belle probably has the 2nd idol but it's tricky to get from her, the red crystal shard is just like any other crystal shard, gonna need Vaigali's help for more info but they gotta convince him to use the steam engine. Chat about the Lilty Tribal Crystal & depart.

Back to Cid's Workshop! hey cid vaigali's gonna use your steam engine maybe okay me 'n keiss are working on it. Cid passes on a message from Althea to meet at the clock plaza. Back to the city! Althea reveals her father is sick and asks if there's any healing Bearers. Layle warns even if there were they'd probably be difficult to work with, he laughs at her saying she'd sacrifice a kingdom for their help and offers a cup of coffee. Layle out, Jegran in! Inquires Althea about the king's sickness, she's hiding the details. Jegran wants full authority but Althea's pushing back. They head off to the council to discuss and Layle comes back with coffees to nobody.

Outside Cid & Vaigali argue about the steam engine, since Vaigali still doesn't wanna use Lilty tech. Keiss comes in pretending to seize it for the kingdom which pushes Vaigali to say he claimed it first. Also offering new info: The Yuke was spotted in the Snowfield, Layle can hop on the train there! On the way they indeed spot the Yuke in some robes heading up the path - Layle & Keiss follow.

At the Snowfield Monastery they find everyone wearing robes here and they go around checking for the Yuke. Instead the first find Blaze, Layle's old mercenary partner before Keiss who was also a Crystal Bearer, says he's after Belle. Checking people further and Layle next finds... Belle! He warns her she's being followed by a Bearer, asks if she took something from Jegran and she plays coy, excited all the heat means more money and runs off. With Keiss in the hall he says he called reinforcements and that Jegran will turn a blind eye to Layle while they focus on the Yuke until suddenly, a scream!

Out in the courtyard Belle is being attacked by Blaze, but the Yuke has stepped in first looking for the Crystal Idol. Layle steps in and asks Belle about it, says she needs help from Blaze or nobody's getting any idol, Layle gets the Yuke to step back as he fights Blaze off. Blaze scatters, Belle thanks Layle and offers him the Crystal Idol, noting geez Jegran & the Yuke are after her for it and Keiss became a colonel for one! She chucks him the idol and leaves.

Now in comes the Lilty army & Jegran, the Yuke & Belle arein the wind so he targets Layle. Amidatelion (the Yuke) steps in to save him from Jegran's sword, inquires about the Idol he got. The Lilty set their sights on Ami instead who flies away, with Layle giving chase on a flying black chocobo. Also giving chase, Jegran stops at a crashed ship where he's ambushed by Blaze, angry and attacking. Jegran goes off about crystal reactors amplifying Bearers powers, the ship has one and Blaze is like hey that's good for him he's getting stronger. Ignoring Blaze and continuing his rantings, Jegran reveals he has a crystal arm, using it to turn a nearby chocobo into a red crystal, using it as a shield then going after Blaze, crystallizing him as well and immediately gets absorbed into the reactor.

Inside the ship Layle is chasing Amidatelion when all of a sudden the power comes on, leaving them both confused. A door opens up with Jegran standing there. Layle's like wtf did I even do, but Jegran explains it's his power as a Bearer that's a threat. Amidatelion pleas the world is in peril and the Yuke crystal must be resurrected so all tribes can work together. The Lilties destroyed their crystal during a past, and that's where the crystal shards energy source comes from. Jegran dgaf. Layle takes out he red shard asking if Jegran recognizes it as Amidatelion explains its distortion. Jegran gives chase but Layle & Amidatelion summon a monster and jump out the window to escape.

As they recover from the fall Jegran continues his chase from a gunship (as a large monster also breaks from the ice joining the chase). Jegran locks in a shot at Layle, Amidatelion jumps to save him and gets pretty banged up in need of recovery. The Lilty army close in as Amidatelion opens a portal. Keiss comes in for the job but Layle explains he has to help the Yuke. Jegran presses Keiss to act so him & Layle put on a bit of show resistance as Layle helps Amidatelion open a portal back into limbo, this time into Ami's home as they begin a body transfer, explains their power in more detail, and suggests Layle scopes the place around.

and here we are again for a break! lmao I know there's no reason for me to be writing these recaps but I'm enjoying another rewatch for this and now that I've started I can't stop

if i was actually playing through this i would have never finished it. especially since it was on wii and i can't deal with running around like that from what i saw.

overall i thought it was a solid experience. not actually playing through the game makes it so that i don't get as attached to the characters but oh well.

was kind of waiting for the Yuke heel turn at some point. main antagonist kind of unremarkable; maybe because he looked like one the whole time though; i just could not get Ganondorf out of my head.

the scene where him and Layle clash and they both end up turning super saiyan was cool though.

Layle is a solid character. think i recall that he had lot of good one liners. probably could slot somewhere in my top 50.

Belle is obviously my fav character in the game and it felt like there was not enough of her but oh well. the picture taking moment early on is the standout moment. i do remember getting a little annoyed when there's a part later on in the prison and she's just yelling at Layle to do something but we don't really get to see her do anything(???). probably like top 30 or so.

but yeah for sure not playing takes a bit out of the connect but at the same time I always repeat it's not really a game everyone can play for sure.

Personally I really enjoy it as a gameplay experience, you notice that there's some backtracking around but when you're like actually playing the game you're more free to just explore & play around with the environment and find secrets. There's a whole thing about achievements for doing unique interactions with monsters & environments around the world, and with the really chill field music it makes for a pleasant sandbox.

but then there's the waggle and really bad minigames that I accept as a justifiable experience killer for many

Jegran yeah eh crazy lunatic but I enjoy Amidatelion as a friend, actually really like the character a lot. lmfao Silver Surfer Layle top tier Final Fantasy power-up, I wish we could've seen Amidatelion get that boost.

One thing I like though is the now-defunct gacha game DFFOO did really well kinda continuing the character stories in Lost Chapters - like Keiss finds Layle here and he's like huh he's really enjoying to be around people here without being a pariah as a Bearer. And with Amidatelion's LC Layle gets to tell them he finished the resurrection.

Layle <3, legit fav FF dude his style always appeals to me on the front of it and then his chill demeanour, he's a good guy guy but certainly cynical from his life as a reviled Crystal Bearer.

sad Belle never made it to DFFOO because she's a joy. I guess not everybody can be a Bearer and her independent nature has her doing her thing solo but it also makes for a very good pairing with Layle, two independent characters that just really click together.

I'm playing Super Mario RPG for the first time (remake), and... I don't really like it? It's clunky, not very charming, the mini-game controls feel very bad, the hidden treasure chests are often a huge annoyance... It's just not good! As a big fan of Mario & Luigi games, this is a huge disappointment.

I'm only two stars in, so maybe it picks up, but I'm just not feeling it yet.

I'm playing Super Mario RPG for the first time (remake), and... I don't really like it? It's clunky, not very charming, the mini-game controls feel very bad, the hidden treasure chests are often a huge annoyance... It's just not good! As a big fan of Mario & Luigi games, this is a huge disappointment.

I really enjoy all the significant roles in Criminal Minds

Got two episodes in a row now with the Lost cast - previous episode has Frank Lapidus in a Waco-esque cult led by Luke Perry, and the very next one Ethan Rom is a victim of Will Wheaton. I know many season later Michael will have a bit of a recurring antag role in Reid's prison arc...

Franky Muniz also a top tier episode, Jesse Pinkman like I said is just hilarious as satanist. Can't wait for the Jason Alexander ep I remember to pop up and of course Aubrey Plaza x Spencer Reid is just the best bi-panic ship of all time

but this is the first episode JJ is on sabbatical for her pregnancy, so one of those "5 knights" is replaced by temp agent Jordan Todd, and that fact is completely ignored

like it isn't an error specific to gamefaqs, with the same script I just manually tried to open google and same error so something just changed from my host's back-end that fucked something up for the logger

honestly tempted to look into moving the project onto google cloud services which is where I have savemy.app running from. or minimum I could move just the logging script over there maybe, if I retool how the scanner works so it queries more efficiently

Which one would be more stable do you think?

I mean current host is stable in the sense that the site is always online which I can't so much guarantee the other way

although the real trouble is that lfaqs is actually a demanding application with scans running every hour so google could be costly

haven't really gotten around to working anything tonight so I'm just running a manual scan from my laptop

I've actually been wondering for awhile, would it be easier to scan every 4 hours or something? Or even more? iirc when it first started it was a scan every 4-6 hours. CE has slowed down to where topics usually take 3 days to purge now so I think as long as a purge scan takes at most 2 days it should be fine.
