Theyve already been toying with this idea. They have Link, Inklings, and Animal Crossing characters. Plus courses from F-Zero and Excitebike, and even a kart based on Steel Diver.

In my opinion, they may as well just make it a kart racing spinoff of Smash Bros., rather than a Mario Kart-branded game. It was fine for the Arcade GP games and 8, but I don't want guest racers (apart from maybe Sonic, given his series' history with Mario) to become a big, regular thing for Mario Kart outside of the aforementioned Smash Kart idea. ...
